BGT 2024: Rohit Sharma’s Participation Uncertain In The First Two Tests

Rohit Sharma

Indian Cricket Team Captain – Rohit Sharma might not be available for early matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 due to personal reasons. Rohit Sharma To Miss These Many Matches Sources revealed that Rohit Sharma has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his situation. With this, he will, therefore, have to miss at least one of the first two test matches or quite probably, both the test matches in the five-match series which will get under way on November 22, 2024. When Will Rohit Sharma Join The Team? While reports suggest that the BCCI is aware of the situation where Rohit may miss a couple of games in the series owing to a personal reason, little is known of this particular issue. There is still hope that he will be able to sort out the problem and make it into the series with his fellow mates.. How It May Affect The Team India may receive in a high-pressure series against the reigning World Test Championship Winners – Australia. Rohit Sharma had to be present. India may face a huge problem without him, both leadership vise as well as batting as the tourists eye good performance on the Australian soil. Who Might Lead In Rohit’s Absence? There is no official statement from the BCCI regarding who might be at the help of affairs for India in the absence of Rohit Sharma. However, guys like Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav (if selected for the red ball side) are in the train. Fans and teammates are excitedly waiting for the BGT 2024-25, along with updates on Rohit Sharma’s situation. Everybody wants an early resolution so that he can join the squad for the complete five tests in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

Cricket’s Growing Popularity in the US: A Relatively New Kid On the Baseball Block

Tendulkar brings Cricket in USA via NCL

Cricket is on a steep uphill. The quest for any toehold in a sporting country that worships football, basketball and most of all baseball. Although cricket and baseball are recognizably bat-and-ball games, they are wholly apart both in terms of clip and style and even more particularly in culture. Still, cricket is making progress, with the NCL on the cutting edge of this sports-making endeavor in the United States. Cricket Tapping Into a Global Fanbase Cricket is the world’s second most popular sport, played by billions in Asia, the UK and Australia. The NCL will try to tap into this global fanbase and tap into a large immigrant population in America from cricket-loving nations. Each one of cities like Houston, New York and Dallas already have dedicated cricket communities and could be launchpads for the activity.  Tendulkar Joining NCL There is, of course, a global icon like Sachin Tendulkar who has recently joined the ownership group of NCL, which gives tremendous value to such attempts. Influence from such a personality and visions of the league drive a sense that cricket is certainly not coming to the U.S. to merely exist but live and breathe. Briefer Formatted Games and Rapid Matches: A Winning Formula? To truly grow cricket in a country so steeped in baseball, the NCL is taking two key approaches: it’s embracing shorter formats and building grassroots engagement. Cricket, in its Twenty20 (T20) version at least, is the sport of instant-gratification-style excitement-for those sports fans who feel that a three-hour outcome is too long to wait for and a 30-run difference is not enough of a high-wire act. In this regard, T20 cricket closely resonates with the swift thrill of baseball and aligns well with American preferences for shorter, more intense games. Local Fan Engagement At the same time, NCL realizes that there should be a fan base in the local area. As America has huge communities of immigrants from India, Pakistan, West Indies and England, there already is an in-built potential audience. However to conquer those other crowds and popularize the game, cricket must make its way into mainstream American sports fans. Through high-profile events in the “Sixty Strikes” tournament, matches that carry interesting content, cricket can sparkle in the imagination of new audiences. Mr. Rishi Sutrave – Founder, The Sportz Planet says “Cricket’s journey in America is not only about competition but also about creating a vibrant experience within the USA sports culture.” A complementary sport and not a rival However, success for cricket will depend on more than just star power and action-packed formats. The sport must relate to young athletes, invade the schools and then partner with the media to reach its audience. Cricket needs to find the right balance between the worldwide heritage of the game and American sports culture in order to be perceived as not in competition with baseball but rather as a whole new dynamic experience. The Future of Cricket in America The journey of cricket within the United States is merely at a very nascent stage. However the promise remains large. With intelligent strategy and having high-profile ambassadors, the NCL is keen to make cricket a household name in America, next to football, basketball, and even baseball in the sporting consciousness of the nation. Women’s T20 WC 2024: How Each Team Stands in the Race for Semi-Final Spots

Women's T20 World Cup 2024

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing its halfway mark and qualifications to the semi-finals are starting to take shape. Each of the ten teams has played two games as of now and the competition is getting sharp.  Let’s break down how each team is faring in their groups. Women’s T20 WC 2024 – Group A Australia (4 points | +2.524 NRR) Alyssa Healy’s Australia has asserted dominance in becoming the team to beat and dominated New Zealand handsomely in their second game. Having won two games already, Australia is well into contention for qualification into the semis. Another win should do the trick against Pakistan and qualify them into the knockout stage. Pakistan (2 points | +0.555 NRR) Pakistan had a great start, winning against Sri Lanka However, after losing to India, things have gotten problematic for them. They still require another win, and their next game against New Zealand will tell them how the balance will tilt in the end. New Zealand (2 points | -0.050 NRR) New Zealand faced the bitter pill of defeat but against a much better opponent in Australia after a great win over India. Their loss has affected their net run rate severely, however they still have the window open to book their semi-final spot. Their remaining matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan are going to come crucial for them to be in the last four. India (2 points | -1.217 NRR) India lost their opening encounter to New Zealand and are still carrying some hope, soon got it back by beating Pakistan. However, they need to win at least one of their next games  with a respectable margin so that their net run rate can improve. Sri Lanka (0 points | -1.667 NRR) Sri Lanka is left ahead of a crucible as they lose consecutive matches to hammer a few nails into their semi-final hopes. In order for them to reach the final four, they would have to win in their remaining two fixtures against India and New Zealand. Most importantly, they should win those matches with a good margin to enhance their net run rate. Women’s T20 WC 2024 – Group B England (4 points | +0.653 NRR) England has dominated Group B with two good victories, including a crushing victory over South Africa. Heather Knight’s team looks very strong and might only need one more victory to seal a semi-final spot. Their next games are going to be crucial in confirming their strength in the group. West Indies (2 points | +1.154 NRR) West Indies responded pretty impressively after they were bashed in the opening game against South Africa, with an easy victory over Scotland. This win not only gave them vital points but also boosted their net run rate quite a bit. They will have to get a win over Bangladesh to further consolidate their qualification chances. South Africa 2 points | +0.245 NRR) South Africa still have the hope to reach into the semis after the loss against England. The crucial thing is that they have two games against Scotland and Bangladesh remaining. If the Proteas win both of their matches, there would be no one stopping them from advancing as both of these teams are on two points with different NRRs. Bangladesh (2 points | -0.125 NRR) Bangladesh won their match for the first time after a wait of ten long years in ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. They won the opening match against Scotland, but lost to England which made their qualification hopes dependent on their performance against West Indies and South Africa. Scotland (0 points | -1.897 NRR) Scotland is a team that has made first steps in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. Since they have only produced occasional highlights, Scotland is in a tight spot. They still have South Africa and England to face and only a miracle can help them reach the tournament’s second stage. What’s Up Next? The coming few matches are very exciting and those groups are sure to heat up even more as they fight for semi-final berths. Teams are racing against time to secure their places, and the next set of matches will be crucial in deciding the teams that advance into the knockout stages. Exciting cricket is something that fans may look forward to with the way the tournament unfolds at Dubai and Sharjah. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

The Impact of Groin Injuries in Cricket and the Science to Recovery

Groin Injuries

New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, is most-likely to miss the test series against India, due to a groin injury. Williamson was suffering from groin injury while playing the second test against Sri Lanka. New Zealand Cricket stated that the athlete will not join the India-bound squad but will instead remain back and start his rehabilitation process.  The fact that he decided to stay home makes obvious that groin injuries are pretty severe. They can really affect the athlete, though if not treated accordingly. Groin Injuries in Cricket: A Better Understanding Groin injuries are one of the most common sports injuries, particularly in cricket. Some of the main reasons for this type of injury are the quick change of direction or sudden stops and, of course, explosive movements strain these muscles located in the groin region. The inner thigh muscles, that is, the adductor muscles are usually strained or torn in groin injuries. These muscles offer stability to the pelvis, which in turn enables the leg to move it through several mechanisms, such as bringing them together or turning inwards. In cricket, they are heavily engaged during running between wickets, quick pivots and abrupt stops, which can easily cause strain. Classification of Groin Injuries Groin strains are typically graded. Grade 1 injuries involve slight damage, with tears in the muscle fibers, often allowing athletes to continue playing with limited mobility however some discomfort. Grade 2 injuries are more severe injuries and have partial tears of the muscle, moderate pain and difficulties in performing movements such as sprinting and sharp stops. Grade 3 injuries are the most severe type of injury with complete tearing indicated by severe pain, immobility or inability to move. Such an injury may take some weeks or months to heal. Symptoms and Impact on Athletes For a groin injury, the signs are pain and tenderness on the inner thigh; swelling and bruising around the inside of the thigh; and strain when moving about, especially when running or changing direction in an instant. Because of the very dependence on quick, supple movements during play, groin injuries can be especially daunting for cricketers like Williamson. Treatment and Recovery For all other types of groin injuries, treatment depends on the grade of the strain. Minor injuries, or Grade 1 injuries, might perhaps be cared for with rest and the application of ice and gentle stretching exercises. In Grade 2 or 3 injuries, it becomes necessary to include a formalized rehabilitation schedule. Ultimately, there is nothing but rest; rest of the muscle is the healing of the muscle without putting further pressure on it. Ice and compression reduce swelling and pain, but other exercises are conducive to strength and flexibility in the area. Preventing Recurrence and Gradual Return to Play Gradual return to activity is also important. As the pain diminishes, athletes can start light training and then progress towards full activities. A suitable warm-up routine, strength, and flexibility exercises must be undertaken to avoid recurrence of the injury. For an elite athlete like Kane Williamson, a careful rehabilitation process with close monitoring is essential to ensure that he returns to his peak performance without risking further damaging the muscles that are injured. The Top 5 ATP Masters 1000 Hard-Court Match Winners

The Masters Of ATP 1000

Of all the four majors of tennis, the ATP Masters 1000 is the highest level of tennis that is outside the Grand Slams. The surface to the hard-court event is the hard courts and these tournaments will shape the kind of season the best players are going to have. In a way, it is a battlefield where the talented ones test their skills against the world’s iconic arenas. In terms of pure hard-court dominance, five men stand out as having incredible match win records at these prestigious events.  Here’s a look at the five players with the most ATP Masters 1000 hard-court match victories. 5. Andre Agassi – 168 Wins One of the greatest personalities in tennis history is Andre Agassi, and he scored his 168th victory on hard courts, entering the annals of Masters 1000 victory history. Agassi’s playing career spanned an era marked by the appearance of many talented competitors for this sport, and he was always one to be reckoned with, particularly in Masters 1000 tournaments. His first Masters 1000 match victory was recorded at Indian Wells in 1990, while his last was there too, 16 years later, in 2006. Agassi’s finest performance throughout his career happened in the Miami Open tournament. There, he had 59 wins and a perfect win percentage of 85.5%, with Miami being Agassi’s real fortress in his whole career. 4. Andy Murray – 177 Wins Britain’s Andy Murray is one of the finest hard-court players ever, whose defensive abilities are unmatched. He has 177 hard-court Masters 1000 triumphs and ranks fourth on that list. Like Agassi, Murray produced his first win on this level in Cincinnati way back in 2005, then again and again proved to be a persistent grass-court opponent on hard courts during his career. He last featured at the hard-court Masters 1000 level at the 2024 Miami Open after advancing to the third round. Murray’s best play came at the Shanghai Masters. He had 25 wins with an incredible win percentage of 82.1%. His great play on Shanghai’s fast hard courts made him winner of several editions of the title. 3. Rafael Nadal – 210 Wins Although clay courses through his veins, Nadal never did forget about his success on the hard courts. His ATP Masters 1000 titles there stood at 210. Nadal entered Masters 1000 hard court competition at the Madrid Open in 2003 and concluded it first at Indian Wells in 2004. His last appearance was in a hard court Master was at the Paris Masters in 2022. Nadal was at his best at Indian Wells; he has 59 wins with a fantastic win percentage of 84.3%. The only place he is not known as a clay-court specialist is on hard courts. His fighting spirit and adaptability have garnered him huge success on hard courts. 2. Roger Federer – 264 Wins Roger Federer stands in second position on this elite list, with 264 match wins on hard courts within ATP Masters 1000 tournaments. Federer made his Masters 1000 debut at the 1999 Miami Open, where he lost, but he won his maiden Master 1000 on a hard court at the Miami Open, the following year. His latest appearance in a Masters 1000 tournament was in 2019 when he reached the quarterfinal stage in the Shanghai Masters. Elegant and flexible, Federer dominated the Masters 1000 events for two complete decades. The ongoing rivalry of the player with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal only added more glamour to these tournaments, and his unparalleled longevity is reflected in his win count. 1. Novak Djokovic – 267 Wins At the top of that is Novak Djokovic, a man whose dominance of hard courts has never been seen before. With 267 match wins up to his latest titles at the 2024 Shanghai Masters, Djokovic fashioned a record that only continues growing even stronger. Serbian sensation Novak Djokovic made his Cincinnati Open debut in 2005 and earned his initial on hard courts Masters 1000 victories later in the same year at the Paris Masters. Djokovic was brilliant at the Miami Open where he notched a fantastic 86.3% win rate, his best performance at any Masters 1000 event in such terms, and took his record to 51 hard-court wins at Indian Wells. At 37, the Serbian maestro appears to be getting no closer to the slow lane as he demonstrates why he is part and parcel of the pantheon of all-time great players. The ATP Masters 1000 tournaments on hard courts have been defined through the contributions of these five players to the long history of the game in their respective ways. The struggle to become the best on the hard courts may very well be fought out by new faces down the line, however one thing is sure, these five legends will always be at the top. More On Back Injury That Forced Naomi Osaka To Withdraw From Japan Open

Naomi Osaka announced that she would not compete in this week’s Japan Open due to a back injury that has also forced her to retire from her last match at the China Open in Beijing.  Osaka’s Back Injury At 26, Osaka has shown great form to live up to expectations. However that momentum didn’t carry over into reality as Osaka was matched up against eventual champion Coco Gauff in the last 16, retiring after the second set due to worsening back pain. Osaka complained of a locked back during a practice session prior to playing Gauff so was unsure if she could even play. Despite her willingness to have a go, she aggravated within the context of the game and had to withdraw. Background Information on Back Injuries Back injuries are usually a common and recurring medical problem with athletes, more so with high impact sports like tennis. The injuries can be caused by muscle strain, ligament sprain, herniated discs, or even stress fractures. Common symptoms involve local pain, stiffness, spasm, and loss of motion. Acute injuries occur suddenly with intense activity, while chronic injuries develop gradually from cumulative insult or poor biomechanics. Such is the case of Osaka, whose sudden withdrawal speaks to the vulnerable nature of the back, which easily compromises performance as well as overall well-being. Potent Remedial Measures The most effective treatment for acute injuries to the back will often involve a multi-factor approach. Above all, the athlete must rest; this can help prevent further damage as the body rehabilitates itself. Often, athletes are advised to cease participating in activities that worsen the condition, usually for a number of days to weeks depending on the severity of the injury. Ice therapy assists in the reduction of inflammation while also numbing the area, and heat therapy promotes blood flow and relaxes tight muscles that could be painful. Role of Physical Therapy The level of recovery is helped by physical therapy with a specific program that could focus on strengthening the muscles in the core and the back, improve flexibilities, and enhance stability in general. Techniques may include manual therapy, ultrasound, and specific exercises to help eliminate pain and restore normal function. Secondly, stretching routines can facilitate flexibility and reduce risk of future injury. Medications and Gradual Return to Activity Medication also forms a part of treatment. Analgesics such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, purchased over the counter, can comfort from pain and reduce inflammation. If the athlete experiences intense pain, health care providers will prescribe muscle relaxants or corticosteroids. The athlete needs to progress gradually towards normal activity. Swim or cycle to maintain a condition without too much stress on the back. Sport-specific training, introduced gradually after the pain subsides with professional assistance, is crucial in avoiding re-injury. It is a pity for the fans, but she deserves care and concentration on recovery to come back stronger from this moment on. The whole world of tennis will literally watch her recover and start leading up to the competitions with all the hopes she would return as soon as possible and as strong as possible. The Fascinating Science Of Biomechanics: Understanding Human Movement

Biomechanics

Ever stopped to consider what biomechanics is, and how that will permit you to comfortably stride across the room? Every step, from heel strike to push-off, is a subtle play of muscles, bones, and physics. This dance of the human body in motion follows a fascinating science: biomechanics. Role Of Biomechanics Biomechanics explores and reveals the how and why of human movement. It unlocks the secrets behind every jump, every throw, even the way we sit or stand. Understanding biomechanics principles develops a deep appreciation for the body’s remarkable design to both pull off delicate balance and explosive force. What is perhaps most important, though, is that biomechanics has little to do with athletic-performance skills. For example, the way we lift groceries to the many hours spent hunched over a computer, our posture and movement patterns can significantly affect our biological systems and overall health. Core Principles of Biomechanics Biomechanics is based on basic principles that rule how our bodies move. These concepts form the building blocks for understanding even the most complex athletic maneuvers. Let’s look at a few key ideas: Forces and Torques Consider the push-off of a jump. This motion is a result of the force your leg muscles generate. The science of biomechanics involves both internal forces-(which are generated by your muscles) and external forces-things like gravity and ground reaction force-that act on your body. It is pretty important to understand how these forces interact to ensure you move efficiently. Finally, torques-or twisting forces-are essential in rotating body segments to throw a ball or twist your torso effectively. Newton’s Laws of Motion You probably don’t remember that class on Sir Isaac Newton. In fact, his laws of motion might work about as well on the field as they do in the classroom. Newton’s First Law (Law of Inertia) tells you why it’s tough to get a body in motion to stop or a body at rest to begin to move, and his Second Law (Law of Acceleration) describes just how force affects the acceleration of an object, including our bodies. Biomechanics relates these principles to understand how forces acting on us can cause us to begin to move, stop moving, or change direction. Center Of Gravity (CoG) Imagine your body to be a kind of inverted pendulum. The CoG is that pivot or point of suspension at which all of the weight of the body appears to be located. Any movement away from an optimal balance of the CoG therefore can compromise stability. Biomechanics helps us understand how posture and movement patterns affect our CoG, and so influence our balance and fall risk. Kinesiology This is quite in contrast with biomechanics, which may be used strictly in the mechanics of movement. On the other hand, kinesiology broadly encompasses the study of human movements coupled with aspects including anatomy, physiology, and psychology. Understanding these concepts-be it biomechanics or kinesiology-provides one with a broad appreciation of how our body moves and functions. Biomechanics is a very crucial field that enhances athletic performance and assists us in our health and fitness activities. The exploration of its principles reveals what is intuitive, namely, the complexity and efficiency of human movement. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen

PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen will look forward to their competitive action on the main stage of the Arctic Open Super 500 in Finland, which begins on Tuesday, 8th October, 2024. It will be their first outing after a couple of woeful outings at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian duo will return after a two-month pause to regroup on the BWF World Tour. New Coaching Strategies for Sindhu Sindhu has revamped her coaching team – she has brought in Anup Sridhar as her interim coach and South Korean legend Lee Syun Il as a consultant. She needed this after her previous coach, Agus Dwi Santoso, left in the wake of her premature exit from Paris 2024. The sixth seeded Sindhu will start off against Canada’s Michelle Li and could face up-and-coming Japanese star Tomako Miyazaki in the next round. Lakshya Focusses On Fitness Lakshya Sen is using his off-time to work on his physiques. He was to take tests at Red Bull Athlete Performance Centre in Salzburg to understand where he is fitness-wise. Unseeded in this tournament, Lakshya Sen will meet Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke and would like a return encounter against seventh seed Chou Tien Chen, whom he won in the Olympics. Young Contingent And Absences The team is represented by the very much in-form Kidambi Srikanth, who will be competing in the qualification rounds after his injury comeback. The future of Indian singles looks bright with youngsters such as Malvika Bansod and Aakarshi Kashyap. India will be missing HS Prannoy from their men’s singles as he will be missing the event due to fitness issues and change of coach. Also missing is the reigning men’s doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty. What To Expect At The Arctic Open? The Arctic Open is definitely a less crowded field and PV Sindhu and Lakshya Sen should have a great opportunity to get back on their feet. Both athletes will indeed be under the prism of the camera because they would try to navigate through the pressures of competition and recalibrate their ambitions for the rest of the season.
