Rafael Nadal’s Career Earnings from Roland Garros

Rafael Nadal

Rafael Nadal and Roland Garros’ connection is one for a lifetime. It wasn’t a dream return for Rafa on Clay Court. The mighty Rafa on clay court was for a change dominated by Alexander Zverev. The German defeated the 14-time-champion 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 in straight sets. This was Rafa’s earliest defeat at Garros, since he made his debut in Paris, two decades back. However, the 2024 Roland Garros wasn’t about Rafa winning or losing. This is about celebrating Nadal’s legendary career, which also means the moolah Rafa made by just winning the French Open over a dozen times. Also Read: Prize Money for Champions at Roland Garros 2024 Between 2005 and 2022, Nadal made 17 appearances in Paris emerged victorious 112 times, and lost a mere three matches. The one to Zverev was his fourth in 18 appearances at Garros. Other than lifting the famous La Coupe des Mousquetaires trophy in the past, Nadal has made a fortune by winning the Roland Garros. Also Read: Prize Money For Champions at Roland Garros 2024 Rafael Nadal’s Career Earnings from Roland Garros Nadal has defeated eight opponents across 14 French Open Finals. Some big names include Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Stanislas Wawrinka, and Dominic Thiem. He not only won the French Open against top opponents but also won a handsome paycheque. Rafael Nadal has a career prize money of over $134 million in his illustrious career. This is the second highest by any athlete, after Novak Djokovic with over $182 million. A major chunk of Nadal’s prize money has come from Roland Garros. So, how much prize money has Nadal earned after winning the French Open titles? Season Opponent Scoreline Prize Money 2005 Mariano Puerta (Argentina) 6-7, 6-3, 6-1, 7-5 € 0.88 million 2006 Roger Federer (Switzerland) 1-6, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 € 0.94 million 2007 Roger Federer (Switzerland) 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 €1.33 million 2008 Roger Federer (Switzerland) 6-1, 6-3, 6-0 € 1.20 million 2010 Robin Soderling (Sweden) 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 € 1.12 million 2011 Roger Federer (Switzerland) 7-5, 7-6, 5-7, 6-1 € 1.20 million 2012 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 € 1.25 million 2013 David Ferrer (Spain) 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 € 1.50 million 2014 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 3-6, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4 € 1.65 million 2017 Stanislas Wawrinka (Switzerland) 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 € 2.10 million 2018 Dominic Thiem (Austria) 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 € 2.20 million 2019 Dominic Thiem (Austria) 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 € 2.30 million 2020 Novak Djokovic (Serbia) 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 € 1.60 million 2022 Casper Rudd (Norway) 6-3, 6-3, 6-0 € 2.35 million Nadal’s total earnings after winning the French Open title is € 21,62,000 or $23,43,813. This figure is approximately 17 percent of the total earnings made by Rafa in his entire career. Over here, we haven’t calculated the earnings he made from his three losses at the French Open. With Nadal bowing out of the first round of the French Open 2024, he lost an opportunity to add another € 2.4 million to his bank account. However, this time it was more than just money on the line for the Spaniard. Rafa missed the 2023 French Open due to a hip injury. He made a comeback at the start of the year but missed the Australian Open. Even the Clay court, which he dominated for years wasn’t good enough to help him sail to Round 2. Rafael Nadal hasn’t announced his retirement, just yet. However, he did confirm that there is a big percentage of him not returning to Paris, in 2025. He has provided innumerable moments of joy to his fans. If this is the last time, Rafa has set foot on the Paris clay court, it is time to salute the legend, for his contributions, and for making us believe that impossible is nothing. Vamos Rafa!

Paris 2024: Toyota to end its $835 million sponsorship with the IOC after Paris 2024

Toyota will end its $835M IOC sponsorship after Paris 2024, citing dissatisfaction with IOC's financial support for athletes.

With the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris just two months away, the games might lose one of their biggest sponsors. According to a report from Japan’s Kyodo News, Toyota will end its sponsorship with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after the Paris games. The report cited unnamed “sources close to the matter.” Toyota has not commented on the Kyodo report, according to media sources. Toyota’s deal, announced in 2015, is thought to be the largest sponsorship the IOC has ever signed. At the time, Japanese media said it was worth $835 million. Kyodo’s report says Toyota is unhappy with how the IOC has used the money. The car company thinks the IOC isn’t doing enough to support the athletes and promote the games. During the Tokyo Summer Olympics in 2021, the IOC was criticized for not supporting the mental health of its athletes. Toyota sources told Kyodo that they want to keep sponsoring the Paralympic games. However, the IOC requires sponsors to support all its events. Toyota is one of only 15 “TOP” sponsors in The Olympic Partner program, the highest level of sponsorship, limited to one company per industry. Other TOP sponsors include Coca-Cola, Samsung, Intel, Corona Cero, and Procter & Gamble. Toyota pulled its commercials from the delayed 2021 Tokyo Olympics, and its executives did not attend the opening ceremonies because of COVID-19 safety concerns. 2024 T20 World Cup: Pass or Fail – Team India’s Stars’ ‘IPL Report Card’

Ahead of the 2024 ICC Men's T20 World Cup, here's a look at India's IPL performance and their prospects for the tournament.

Cricket fans need not worry. The IPL might be over, but the action continues. The focus now shifts from the Indian Premier League to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.  Like always, Team India is one of the favourites to win the T20 World Cup. The fans want it dearly, even the players do. This is a good time to introspect Team India’s 15-member-squad and their current form, on the basis of the IPL going into the ICC event. So, here we go then.  1. Rohit Sharma [Captain]First comes the captain – Rohit Sharma. Mumbai Indians finished at the bottom of the table. Like his team, Rohit also had an indifferent IPL 2024 season.  The first half produced consistent runs, and also a century against Chennai Super Kings at Wankhede. However, the fizz died down in the second half, especially in the knockout matches for the 5-time-IPL champions. With 417 runs from 14 matches, at a strike rate of 150, with a mere century and one half-century, MI fans wanted more from their Hitman. Statistically, the numbers look good, but given the high standards Rohit has set for himself, he would consider this performance as a below par one. Both Rohit Sharma and his fans would be hoping that he did save some big runs/knocks for the upcoming T20 World Cup. This could also be Rohit Sharma’s last ICC event for Team India, and he would like to make every opportunity count for the Blues.– Rating: 5/10 2. Hardik Pandya [Vice Captain]Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2024 season was marked by struggles both with the ball and the bat. His bowling was particularly expensive, conceding 387 runs in 14 matches at a high economy rate of 10.75, and he only managed to take 9 wickets, showing his inability to control the run flow or consistently take wickets. With the bat, Pandya was underwhelming, scoring just 216 runs at an average of 18.00 and a strike rate of 125.71. His highest score was 42, indicating a lack of significant contributions throughout the season.  These stats highlight a tough season for Pandya, underlining the need for a significant turnaround in form as he heads into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, where his performance will be crucial for India’s middle-order stability and overall success.– Rating: 3/10 3. Virat KohliVirat Kohli’s IPL 2024 performance was nothing short of spectacular. He amassed 741 runs in 14 matches at an impressive average of 57.00 and a strike rate of 140.50.  Kohli’s consistency was evident as he scored eight half-centuries and two centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 112. His ability to anchor the innings while maintaining a brisk scoring rate made him the standout batsman of the tournament.  This remarkable performance not only earned him the Orange Cap but also reaffirmed his status as one of the best T20 batsmen in the world.  Heading into the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Kohli’s form will be crucial for India’s success, and his stats from IPL 2024 provide a strong foundation for optimism.– Rating: 9/10 4. Suryakumar YadavSuryakumar Yadav’s IPL 2024 season showcased his potential despite some inconsistency. He scored 480 runs in 16 matches at an average of 32.00 and an impressive strike rate of 148.75.  SKY managed to hit five half-centuries, with his highest score being 87 not out. His ability to accelerate the scoring and play innovative shots made him a vital asset for his team. Despite his occasional lapses in form, his overall performance with the bat was commendable.  As he gears up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Virat would be expected to deliver match-winning performances, especially in crucial games against top teams like Pakistan and during the knockout stages.– Rating: 6/10 5. Rishabh Pant [Wicket-Keeper]Rishabh Pant’s IPL 2024 performance marked a significant comeback, demonstrating his batting prowess and ability to handle pressure. He scored 450 runs in 14 matches at an average of 37.50 and a remarkable strike rate of 155.00.  Pant’s aggressive style and consistency were evident as he notched up four half-centuries, with a top score of 92. His ability to accelerate the innings and play impactful knocks, especially while batting in the middle order, provided stability and momentum to his team.  These impressive stats from the IPL 2024 season set high expectations for Pant to deliver similar performances for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, reinforcing his role as a key player in high-pressure situations.– Rating: 7/10 6. Sanju Samson [Keeper]Sanju Samson’s IPL 2024 season highlighted his potential to contribute significantly, even though he has struggled under pressure at times. Samson scored 531 runs in 15 matches at an average of 35.40 and a strike rate of 143.00. He showcased his batting skills with six half-centuries, his highest score being 84. Samson’s ability to play aggressive and fluent innings provided crucial runs for his team.  Despite occasional lapses, his overall performance in the IPL 2024 was strong, giving him the confidence to step up at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. These stats underline his capability to be a valuable asset for the Indian team, especially if he can overcome his struggles in high-pressure situations.– Rating: 7/10 7. Axar PatelAxar Patel’s IPL 2024 performance solidified his reputation as a dependable all-rounder. With the bat, he scored 275 runs in 14 matches at an average of 22.91 and a strike rate of 135.00, providing crucial lower-order runs for his team.  His highest score was a quickfire 48 not out, demonstrating his ability to finish innings strongly. With the ball, Axar was equally impressive, taking 18 wickets at an economy rate of 7.66. His best bowling figures were 3/18, showcasing his knack for breaking partnerships and maintaining pressure on the opposition. These statistics reflect Axar’s all-around capabilities and make him a key player for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, especially on the spin-friendly pitches in the West Indies.– Rating: 8/10 8. Mitchell Starc Pat Cummins

In December 2023 at the IPL auction, the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders broke the bank for Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Combined, the Australian duo was sold for Rs 45.25 Crore. First, the Australian Captain was bought for Rs 20.50 Crore. A few moments later, KKR steamrolled the remaining nine franchises, to bag Starc’s services for a mammoth Rs 24.50 Crore. Back then, even after making such extravagant bids, many- including fellow team owners, media and fans weren’t sure of such costly buys. Now, after the IPL 2024 is over, with KKR lifting the title, the two most costliest players in IPL history, are the ones standing tall. The Big Bucks Theory Right since the beginning of the IPL, there has been a notion, that big bucks can be a distraction for top players. There have been examples like Andrew Flintoff (CSK-2009), Yuvraj Singh (Delhi-2015), and Chris Morris (Rajasthan – 2021), who failed to live up to expectations. The pressure was on both Starc and Cummins. The limelight was always going to be on them – be it success or failure. Both the Aussies had a dream IPL, individually and as a team. Starc produced 17 wickets from 14 matches. This was after going through a lull period in the first half of the tournament. Like the big players often do, they step up when the team needs them the most. The left-arm pacer produced a dream spell, first in qualifier 1 picking up three wickets, and then in the final, picking up two wickets. His spell determined the fate of both these games. In both these big games, Starc was named as the player of the match. Talking about Pat Cummins, the all-rounder did some heavy lifting right through the IPL 2024. He is the fulcrum around which Sunrisers Hyderabad’s ship floated, from game number one. Talking of numbers, he finished with 18 wickets from 16 matches and also played useful cameos with the bat. Most importantly, Cummins led the team superbly, on and off the pitch. Fittingly, his team played the final. Both Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have proved that money might not always be a big distraction, for players. If you are as talented and committed as the Australian pace duo, then there’s no need to worry. With the mega auction coming up, expect the remaining teams to take a leaf out of KKR and SRH books, and target specific players, no matter, what price they come at. Maybe the Big Bucks Theory is likely to stay for a few more seasons. Also Read: IPL or T20 World Cup winners – who get a bigger paycheque? Life comes a full circle for Starc and Cummins He first posed with Rohit Sharma and the World Cup trophy at Adalaj Stepwells in Ahmedabad. Then, he had a modeling session with Kraigg Brathwaite at Adelaide Oval, flipping sunglasses like teenagers. Recently, Pat Cummins had a photoshoot with Shreyas Iyer and the IPL trophy at Marina Beach, posing with an autorickshaw. He’s made all these poses work without any fuss, both on and off the field, as Sunrisers Hyderabad captain. Mitchell Starc isn’t into posing much but has performed well on the field. He returned to the IPL after nine years and had a standout 2024 season. No one could imagine, Starc finishing as a winning member of the IPL winning team, and playing a major role in that too. Cummins has had a big impact on Hyderabad’s performance, leading them from the bottom to the top of the table. He’s created a positive environment for the team and contributed crucial overs in matches. Despite not being a T20 specialist or having prior captaincy experience in T20, Cummins was a strategic pick for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Starc, on the other hand, had limited T20 experience but was a sought-after player at the auction due to his international reputation. Gautam Gambhir’s decision to splurge truckloads of money on Starc has finally paid rich dividends. Kolkata Knight Riders played like invincible and rightfully deserve to be the IPL 2024 champions. SRH fans are expectedly disappointed, but the brand of cricket they played right through the season, has caught everyone’s attention. In the IPL, every era is dominated by players from respective countries. Maybe Aussie domination in the IPL has just begun, thanks to the Big Bucks Theory.

Working Out Safely in the Summer Heat

8 tips to help you exercise safely in summers.

The summer heat can make exercising tough and even risky. If you’re not careful, you might get heat-related problems like heat stroke, heat exhaustion, or severe dehydration. These can mess up your fitness goals. But don’t worry, here are some tips to help you exercise safely even on the hottest days. COLD SHOWER IS THE KEYBefore you start your workout, take a cold shower. After the shower, let your hair stay wet instead of using a blow dryer. This can help keep you cool during your workout. STAY HIGH ON FLUID INTAKEWater is your best friend on hot days to stay hydrated. If you plan to exercise for more than an hour, consider drinking sports drinks. Sports drinks are great for long workouts in the heat because they have potassium and electrolytes that help rehydrate your body. The sodium in them can also be beneficial on a hot day. Remember, moderation is key. LIGHT CLOTHING IS THE NEW FASHIONWear bright colors to reflect the sun and make you more visible to cars. Cotton is a light and affordable material that helps you stay dry. If you can spend a bit more, go for sweat-wicking shirts and shorts to keep sweat away. MAKE SUNSCREEN YOUR BFFAvoid getting sunburned during your workout by using sunscreen. Choose one with at least SPF 50 and make sure it’s waterproof so it stays on when you sweat. AVOID WORKING OUT DURING THE FOLLOWING TIMEThe hottest part of the day in summer is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Try to work out before or after this time. Many people like to exercise early in the morning because it energizes them for the day and helps them sleep better at night. DRINK WATER AND QUENCH YOUR THIRSTSummer is a great time to enjoy water activities like swimming, surfing, or paddleboarding. These activities help you stay fit and cool. You might even find a new favorite exercise.  If you prefer running, you can still enjoy the water by running in the rain. It can help you stay cool and many find it refreshing. Just be sure to wear bright, waterproof clothing and avoid running near cars. If there’s lightning or thunder, head inside quickly. INDOOR WORKOUT IS THE NEW COOLOn extremely hot days, consider working out indoors at a gym or at home if you have the equipment. This can help you avoid heat-related injuries while still keeping up with your fitness routine. BODY SPEAKSListen to your body. If you start feeling dizzy, nauseous, or very tired, take a break. Resting is better than pushing too hard and getting sick or injured, which could stop you from working out altogether.  If the heat is too much for intense workouts, break them into smaller sessions throughout the day. This way, you can rest and refuel without compromising your fitness goals. Have fun with your workouts and stay cool and safe this summer! The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.
