2024 T20 World Cup: Meet the ‘youngest’ and the ‘oldest’ commentator

The ICC recently announced the list of commentators for the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA. Expectedly, there are some heavyweight names like Ravi Shastri, Harsha Bhogle, Ian Bishop, Matthew Hayden, and Wasim Akram, among others.

There are also some new additions like Australian batter Steve Smith, and American commentator James O’Brien, who will also be making his World Cup debut.

As many as 41 star-studded former cricketers and broadcasters from 13 countries will be taking on the commentating duties. The ICC has kept a mix-bag comprising male and female broadcasters in the announced list.

Who is the youngest commentator?

Amongst the former cricketers, West Indies’ T20 World Cup hero – Carlos Brathwaite and Australia’s Steve Smith, share the honors. Both of them are 35 years old and will entertain the audience with their experience, behind the mike.

Amongst the professional broadcasters, South Africa’s Natalie Germanos, who hails from Johannesburg is the youngest one in the lot. She is just 31 but has already turned into a pundit for several T20 leagues worldwide. Insignia Sports currently represents her.

Who is the oldest commentator?

The contenders in this category are many – both cricketers and broadcasters. Former Indian Captain Sunil Gavaskar leads the cricketers category. He is currently 74 and has over three decades of broadcasting experience.

Giving Sunny, a close fight from the professional broadcasters category, is South African legend Alan Wilkins. He is 70 years old and recently completed 40 years in broadcasting.

Amongst the 41 commentators finalized by the ICC, seven apiece are from Australia and England. India has five representatives while West Indies has four.
