Premier League 2024 : Top 5 Worst Defeats for Chelsea in EPL, After Emirates Stadium Horror

A scintillating second half performance by Arsenal saw them beat Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The win for Arsenal has ensured that they are at the number one spot in the points table, with Liverpool breathing down their neck. Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard, Ben White and Kai Havertz were amongst the goals with Trossard scoring in the 4th minute and White in the 52nd and in the 70th minute. Kai Havertz starred against his former team in the 57th and in the 65th minute and made an impact twice on the score sheet.   Apart from Chelsea’s Tuesday’s loss against Arsenal, here are another 5 matches in the Premier League history wherein the Chelsea Football Club faced heavy defeat.  One of the most memorable losses came in September 2019 when Chelsea faced a devastating 6-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium. The comprehensive nature of the loss underscored the gulf in class between the two teams. Back in October 1991, Chelsea suffered another heavy blow at the City Ground, this time at the hands of Nottingham Forest, who triumphed 7-0. The result was a bitter pill for Chelsea fans to swallow, as their team was outplayed in every aspect of the game. Adding to the list is a 5-0 defeat against Arsenal in October 2011. The Gunners’ dominance on the field left Chelsea reeling, highlighting the importance of resilience and tactical acumen in the Premier League. Similarly, Chelsea faced the jaws of defeat, once again against Arsenal in September 2016, as they went on hammering Chelsea 3-0. Another encounter saw Chelsea completely bullied by Newcastle United 3-0 in May 2018. Chelsea was in full preparations and never saw this coming but Newcastle United had some other plans.  Football enthusiasts took to X, formerly known as Twitter to show their disappointment and their reactions after Chelsea’s defeat against Arsenal.  There were heaps of praises to the goal scorers from the fans.  One of them wrote – “Trossard too clinical man”  The other went on praising Havertz – “Havertz masterclass!!! Omo I love this team. We are scoring 6 tonight” Ben White caught the attention of the viewers. One of them tweeting – “Havertz masterclass!!! Omo I love this team. We are scoring 6 tonight” Chelsea has been having a hard time lately, and it might stay tough for them even after this game. They probably won’t lift the Premier League title this season, but they can still aim to finish around the top four. That way, they could qualify for the Champions Trophy next season. Under Mauricio Pochettino’s leadership, Chelsea can be really good sometimes, but other times, they’re not so great. Chelsea’s recent 5-0 defeat against Arsenal is marked as one of their worst performances in Premier League history.  These defeats serve as reminders of the challenges that even the most successful clubs face in the fiercely competitive arena of English football. Chelsea now have to regroup and next play Aston Villa in their next EPL fixture on Sunday, 28th of April, 2024.  The 2024 Premier League season is coming to end and every team is adding more excitement to the tournament. The teams are looking to grab some important points to get as close to the top of the table as they can.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

IPL 2024 : Delhi Capitals’ David Warner Seeks Improvement Ahead of Gujarat Titans’ Encounter

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has crossed its halfway mark, but Delhi Capitals have done very little to bring a smile on their home fans’ faces. On Wednesday, DC gets one more chance to resurrect their mistake, when they take on Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. With just three wins from eight matches, DC is desperate for a win. One player who can help Delhi to stay alive in IPL 2024 is David Warner. The Australian southpaw has scored only 167 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 135.77. Warner, whose bat has remained silent in the first half, would like to set the record straight in Delhi’s remaining six games. While speaking to the media, Warner said,  “We’ve got a little bit of improving to do, both with bat and the ball. If we can minimise the totals, it would be great. And then if we bat first, try and put a big total on the board and defend it.” Warner, an IPL great who himself is going through a lean patch, has failed to produce big numbers via his batting displays.  DC currently sits on the 8th position of the 2024 Indian Premier League points table. The veteran batter is still confident that the Delhi Capitals could turn the tide in the remainder of the IPL 2024 season.  For Delhi to qualify for the playoffs, they should win at least five of their remaining six matches, to stand a chance. DC would want Warner to fire on all cylinders and produce some match winning knocks for the franchise in the remaining six matches..  David Warner – an IPL legend Warner has been a consistent force in the Indian Premier League for the past decade or so. The explosive Australian batter has the ability to single-handedly dismantle bowling attacks.  He has been a cornerstone for the teams he has represented, notably the Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he led the team to its maiden IPL title back in 2016.  Warner’s IPL journey is adorned with numerous accolades, including three Orange Cap awards (IPL 2015, 2017, 2019) for being the tournament’s leading run-scorer.  They say, form is temporary, class is permanent. There’s no doubt that Warner himself would be expecting more runs from his bat and in the process get Delhi’s campaign back on track in IPL 2024. The Delhi Capitals next play against the Gujarat Titans at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday, April 24, 2024. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

“We want to make sure this becomes a fortress for us,” says DC Head Coach Ponting ahead of first home game in Delhi

New Delhi, 19 April 2024: With two clinical wins under their belt, the spirited JSW and GMR co-owned franchise Delhi Capitals will look to complete a hat-trick of wins when they take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday. Speaking about playing the home match in Delhi for the first time in the season, Delhi Capitals’ Head Coach Ricky Ponting said, “We’re really excited to be back. It’s the home ground. We want to make sure this becomes a fortress for us when opposition teams come here. So, we’re excited to be here and hopefully, we can start our home campaign well tomorrow.” “On the back of the WPL, we wanted to ensure that we had some grass back on and the wickets could potentially play a bit better than they have done for us in the last couple of years,” he further added while talking about the pitch condition at Arun Jaitley Stadium. Their opponents for the next game, Sunrisers Hyderabad have broken the highest total record twice this season. They are currently placed fourth in the points table with four wins, two losses in six matches. Speaking about the match-up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Ponting said, “We don’t mind having a shootout tomorrow if it’s a high-scoring game, so be it.” “We know and expect that they’re going to play the way they’ve played so far in the tournament which has been going hard at the top of the order with the bat, and trying to post a big first innings total. So, we’re happy to try and match them in that. We think we’ve got as good a batting line-up if not better batting line-up than theirs.” Ponting also provided an update on David Warner’s fitness. He said, “He was 85 or 90 per cent fit a couple of days ago. We’d expect that there’d be a little bit more improvement from him today. But he’ll have to do a lot of batting today against fast bowling to make sure that the pain he had last week is not anymore. So, hopefully, he’s fit and ready.” The Delhi Capitals will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match of IPL 2024 at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.
