Mumbai witnessed its one of a kind sports championship as the Summer Slam Padel Championship 2024 was played at the Padel Park, at Wings, Bandra, on 20th and 21st of April, 2023. The tournament was the first ever padel championship played in India.
In men’s Doubles, it was the duo of Shashank Narde and Adil Kalyanpur who went on winning the prize. Adil Kalyanpur was also declared as the ‘Player Of The Tournament.’
What’s so special about Padel?
Padel is a fast-paced racket sport blending tennis and squash, played in doubles on a small enclosed court with solid paddles and a perforated ball. Glass walls and wire mesh fencing enable rebounds, emphasizing strategy, quick reflexes, and teamwork. Popular in Europe and Latin America for its accessibility and social appeal, the sport is enjoyed by players of all ages and skill levels.
Padel in Mumbai got tremendous response from the audience and caught the eyes of sponsors as well. The likes of megabrands such as Raymond, Decathlon, Kuikma, SeedWTR, Francesco’s Pizzeria, OG Samosa and Enerzal had their sponsorship stakes at the event.
The world’s best Padel coach, Victor Perez, marked his presence, guiding and training the players on the field.
Amidst sitting at home and watching the IPL, the Mumbai residents came out and had some fun under the sun playing padel and cheering their favorite Padel players gives us a clear indication that the audiences and the players enjoyed the first season of the Summer Slam Padel Championship and are eager for another season of the championship soon.
