World’s Richest Sports Team Owners For 2025


The Forbes has published its annual rich-list. As part of its yearly exercise to determine the wealthiest people on earth, Forbes has also simultaneously produced a catalogue of the richest sports team owners of 2025.

This year Forbes has expanded its listicle of richest sports team owners in the world to 25 as it believes it gives it the room to include owners of European football teams. According to Forbes’ calculations, the richest 25 sports team owners in the world have a combined worth $607 billion.

Forbes in its analysis found out that every owner mentioned in its list had “their net worth climb”. The persons on this list are primarily from the United States of America and basketball has emerged as the most represented sport on this lucrative list.

For the sake of this article we will refer to only the 10 wealthiest sports team owners in the world, look into their net worth, their source of wealth, the sports teams that they own and their citizenship. Unfortunately from an Indian context, there is no Indian present on this list.

The list presented below is in reverse order.

10. Stephen Ross

Stephen Ross is an American real estate and sports magnate. He is the chairman of Related Companies, a global real estate development firm. His net worth is $18.4 billion. He owns National Football League (USA based league for American Football) team Miami Dolphins.

9. Henry Samueli


Henry Samueli is an American businessman and engineer. He is the co-founder, Chief Technology Officer and Chairman of Broadcom. His company is a world leader in designing, developing, manufacturing, and supplying a wide range of semiconductors. Forbers estimates his net worth to be $19.7 billion. Samueli and his wife bought the Anaheim Ducks, an American ice hockey team, for $70 million in 2005. The value of the team is now worth $675 million.

7. David Tepper and Steven Cohen

America’s David Tepper and Steven Cohen are tied for the seventh spot on this list. Both have a net worth of $21.3 billion. The two billionaires have minted money through their hedge fund firms. While Tepper founded Appaloosa Management in 1993, Cohen oversees Point72 Asset Management.

In sports, Tepper is the owner of Carolina Panthers (American Football team that plays in NFL) and CharlotteFC, (a football club that plays in Major League Soccer). Cohen, meanwhile is the owner of New York-based baseball team New York Mets.

6. François Pinault & family

François Pinault is the founder of French luxury brand Kering. The brand specializes in luxury goods, headquartered in Paris. Pinault is an octogenarian French billionaire with a net worth of $21.7 billion. He and his family combine to own France based football club Stade Rennais FC that competes in French top-tire league, Ligue 1. Pinault and family have owned the club for close to thirty years.

5. Idan Ofer

Idan Ofer is one of the two sons of Sammy Ofer, who was once Israel’s richest man. According to Forbes Ofer owns a company that operates a fleet of more than 200 bulk, container and crude oil ships and his net worth is $22.5 billion. He is also a majority stake holder in of Israel Corp., a publicly-traded chemicals, energy and shipping conglomerate. Ofer’s sporting ventures include holding a a 30% stake in Spanish football team Atletico de Madrid, as well as an 85% stake of Portuguese football club FC Famalicao.

4. Daniel Gilbert


Danile Gilbert co-founded Quicken Loans, the largest mortgage lender in the USA. Gilbert took Quicken public as Rocket Companies in August 2020. Forbes evaluates Gilbert’s net worth to be $27.8 billion. Gilbert owns basketball team Cleveland Cavaliers that competes in America’s National Basketball Association.

3. Miriam Adelson & family

Miriam Adelson is the widow of Sheldon Adelson. Sheldon was the founder, chairman and chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands, which is an American casino and resort company. In Forbes’ estimate Miriam Adelson has a net worth of $32.1 billion. Miriam Adelson & family bought American basketball team Dallas Mavericks which plays in NBA.

2. Rob Walton & family

Rob Walton is the eldest son of Walmart co-founder Sam Walton. The net worth of Rob Walton & family is $110 billion. Rob Walter and his family are the owners of Denver Broncos which is an American football team that plays in National Football League.

1. Steve Ballmer


Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer is the richest sports team owner in 2025. His net worth is $118 billion. He bought American basketball team Los Angeles Clippers in 2014 for $2 billion. The team is now valued at $4.65 billion.
