Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian has bought stake in Chelsea’s women’s team. Chelsea’s women’s team are the reigning Women’s Super League (WSL) champions. WSL is the highest level of women’s football in England.
Ohanian, who is an American, took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement.
“I’ve bet big on women’s sports before—and I’m doing it again. I’m proud to announce that I’m joining Chelsea Women as an investor and board member. I’m honored for the chance to help this iconic club become America’s favorite Barclays Women Super League team and much, much more.” Ohanian wrote on X.

According to a Reuters report Ohanian had acquired a 10% stake and invested $26.52 million in the team. A March 2025 report published by investopedia Ohanian’s net worth is $150 million.
This is not the first time that the 42-year-old is getting involved in sports business. Ohanian at one time was the largest shareholder of of Angel City, an American football team based in Los Angeles. The team was founded in 2020 and he sold it for for $250 million last year.
The Reuters report says that Chelsea’s women’s team passed from Chelsea FC Holdings Limited to BlueCo, Todd Boehly’s consortium, last June in a deal worth around 198.7 million pounds.
Chelsea is scheduled to take on Manchester United in the women’s FA Cup final this Sunday.
Ohanian is also the husband of tennis legend Serena Williams.
