MI Emirates skittle out Abu Dhabi Knight Riders for 95 runs to record an emphatic nine-wicket win

In a spectacular showcase of bowling mastery, MI Emirates delivered a stunning blow to Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, restricting them to a mere 95 runs in 14.1 overs. The relentless performance led to a resounding nine-wicket victory for MI Emirates in the sixth match of the DP World ILT20 Season 2 at the Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Trent Boult emerged as the star for MI Emirates, claiming 3 wickets for 14 runs, while Akeal Hosein supported with 2 wickets for 21 runs. Despite the Knight Riders’ experienced all-rounder Andre Russell’s valiant effort with 48 runs off 25 balls, Muhammad Rohid Khan’s three-wicket haul hastened the end of Knight Riders’ innings.

MI Emirates commenced their chase with Muhammad Waseem and Kusal Perera establishing a comfortable partnership. Waseem’s aggressive start, including two boundaries and a six in the first over, set the tone. Perera, contributing with a quick 22 runs, fell to Matiullah Khan. Skipper Nicholas Pooran, alongside Waseem, swiftly achieved the target, with Pooran remaining unbeaten at 39 off 16 balls and Waseem at 26 off 20 balls. The victory, secured with 71 balls to spare, propelled MI Emirates to the top of the table.

The Knight Riders’ disastrous batting unfolded as they lost half their side for 22 runs in 6.1 overs. Alishan Sharafu, after scoring boundaries off Hosein and Boult, fell to Hosein for 10. Subsequent wickets included Michael Pepper, Sam Hain, Andries Gous, Laurie Evans, Imad Wasim, and Ravi Bopara, leaving Abu Dhabi reeling at 53 for 8 at the halfway mark.

Skipper Sunil Narine’s brief innings added only one run before Boult claimed his wicket. Despite Russell’s aggressive hitting, the Knight Riders fell short, finishing four runs shy of the 100-run mark.

Trent Boult, named Player of the Match, shared his simple game plan of pitching up and seeking swing. Knight Riders’ captain Narine urged his team to put the loss behind them, emphasizing the need to learn from mistakes. MI skipper Nicholas Pooran expressed his delight and called for consistency, aiming to capitalize on the team’s momentum in the upcoming games.

The comprehensive win marks a significant turnaround for MI Emirates, showcasing their determination and resilience in the tournament.
