In a stunning display of skill and determination, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team secured an emphatic 11-1 victory over New Zealand in the Quarter-Finals of the FIH Hockey5s Women’s World Cup 2024. The win propels them to the Semifinals, where they are set to face South Africa at 2300hrs IST on 26th January.
The match started with New Zealand taking an early lead with a goal from Oriwa Hepi in the 2nd minute. However, India responded swiftly, with Deepika Soreng equalizing within fifteen seconds with an astonishing finish.
Maintaining their high intensity throughout the game, India saw Rutaja Dadaso Pisal (9’) putting them in the lead, followed by quick back-to-back goals from Mumtaz Khan (10’, 11’). The goal-fest continued as Mariana Kujur (13’, 14’) added two more goals, ending the first half with India leading 6-1.
The second half witnessed India’s relentless control, with Rutaja Dadaso Pisal (22’) scoring her second goal, and Deepika Soreng (25’) notching up her second. Pisal continued her scoring spree with two more goals (26’, 28’), while Soreng completed her hat-trick with another goal in the 29th minute. The final score stood at 11-1 in favor of India.
