Playoffs: RCB has a mere 6.25% Chance of winning IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru

IPL Playoffs: The odds are stacked heavily against Royal Challengers Bengaluru going into the Eliminator against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday. The match will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. RCB’s unbelievable run in the second half of the IPL has made the Red Army fans feel – “Ee Sala Cup Namde” (This year, the cup is ours). However, the fans need to keep their emotions in check. Technically and historically speaking, RCB’s chances of winning the IPL 2024 is a mere 6.25 percent. We will get to the mathematical percentages later, meanwhile, let’s look at how the RCB has fared in their eliminator match history. Overall, the Red Army has played five IPL eliminator games, and the results are as follows. Royal Challengers Bengaluru In IPL Eliminators SEASON DATE MATCH RESULT VENUE 2010 Apr 21, 2010 MI vs RCB MI won by 35 runs Navi Mumbai 2015 May 20, 2015 RR vs RCB RCB won by 71 runs Pune 2016 May 14, 2016 RCB vs GL RCB won by 144 runs Bengaluru 2020 Nov 06, 2020 RCB vs SRH SRH won by 6 wickets Abu Dhabi 2022 May 25, 2022 LSG vs RCB RCB won by 14 runs Kolkata In 2010, the Red Army squared off with Paltan in the semis, which is also considered as an eliminator. RCB has won three knockout matches and lost two, which is a pretty good record. The last time they were in an eliminator was against Lucknow Super Giants in Kolkata. RCB defeated LSG by 14 runs and made it to the qualifier 2, where they lost to Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets. RCB needs to emulate Deccan Chargers’ feat in 2009 Now, we come to the 6.25 percent part, and the calculation. In the past 14 editions, no team has won the IPL title, finishing in the 4th spot. In 16 seasons, overall, the first and only team to win an IPL title after finishing in the 4th spot in the points table, at the end of the league stage was the Deccan Chargers. As it has happened only once in 16 completed seasons, thus the percentage calculation. (1/16 *100 = 6.25) Also Read: Where has Virat Kohli invested his money? Coincidentally, the RCB was at the receiving end of the IPL 2009 final in Johannesburg. The Chargers, under Adam Gilchrist, defeated the Anil Kumble-led Bengaluru side by six wickets to write a remarkable comeback in tournament history. The only difference is that in 2009, there was no playoff system, and the top four teams made it to the semis. Since 2011, the side finishing fourth has had to win an eliminator, then the second qualifier, and finally the final to win the IPL title. RCB has never won an IPL trophy, despite making it to the final thrice in 2009, 2011, and 2016. This time though, they are running high on confidence, winning six straight matches to book a spot in the playoffs. Now, it is time for them to take one step at a time and realize their long-standing dream of winning an IPL title. Even though the RCB has a mere 6.25 percent chance of winning the IPL trophy, someone like Virat Kohli will grab that opportunity with both hands. No team in IPL history has managed to achieve this unique feat for the past 14 years. RCB has a chance to not only rewrite history books but also to carve a legacy of its own. If Virat Kohli and company can achieve this impossible feat, it will be a season to remember for Red Army fans for the rest of their lives.

Rohit Sharma’s Blue Heart Post for Mumbai Indians: Is it over?

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma is not just a name, but an emotion for Mumbai Indians fans. Just like MS Dhoni with the Chennai Super Kings, or Virat Kohli for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma enjoys the same cult status for the Mumbai franchise. There’s a lot that has happened around Rohit and Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. Rumors are large that the Hitman has already played his last game for MI. Adding fuel to the fire is Rohit’s latest social media post on X. Rohit dropped a blue heart on a collage of pictures from the Mumbai Indians campaign, this season. In the post, he can be seen signing autographs for the fans, a group picture with the entire team and support staff, walking into a training session, and most importantly, a photo of a sea of blue at the Wankhede. Without reading too much into the pictures, it is not often that Rohit posts such a ‘Thank You’ message on his social media. He hasn’t made such gestures, especially when his future with the franchise is uncertain. Rohit Sharma’s total earnings as MI player The Hitman joined MI in 2011 and played 14 seasons for the franchise. He was made the team’s captain in 2013 until this year when Hardik Pandya replaced him as the MI skipper. Rohit captained the Blues in 158 matches, winning 87 of them, and facing defeat in 67 matches. Again an MI record, which is unlikely to be matched for many more years to come. He wasn’t just the captain, but Rohit was also the highest-paid MI player for multiple seasons. Here’s the breakdown of his earnings: IPL Season Salary 2011 Rs 9.20 Crore 2012 Rs 9.20 Crore 2013 Rs 9.20 Crore 2014 Rs 12.50 Crore 2015 Rs 12.50 Crore 2016 Rs 12.50 Crore 2017 Rs 12.50 Crore 2018 Rs 15 Crore 2019 Rs 15 Crore 2020 Rs 15 Crore 2021 Rs 15 Crore 2022 Rs 16 Crore 2023 Rs 16 Crore 2024 Rs 16 Crore Rohit Sharma started his IPL career at Rs 3 Crore in 2008 for Deccan Chargers. His IPL salary has seen a monstrous growth of 433% over the last 16 years. With Mumbai Indians alone, Rohit has amassed a salary of Rs 185.60 Crore from the Ambanis. How many franchises can afford Rohit? That should be interesting to see. Is it all over between MI & Rohit? Goodbyes are the toughest to say, express, or even feel. under whom Mumbai Indians emerged as 5-time IPL champions is arguably undergoing similar emotions. The 37-year-old Mumbai opener’s future with the franchise is uncertain. After MI’s horror run in IPL 2024, one can expect a wave of changes in the franchise. Mumbai might let go of Rohit Sharma, to build a team for the future. What Rohit has achieved is commendable, both as a skipper and as a batter for Mumbai. Watching him play for another franchise might be painful for his fans. Who knows, what’s in store? The fans will have to wait till the IPL 2025 major auction for answers. IPL 2024 Playoffs: KKR vs SRH – Who Wins Qualifier 1, If Rain Plays Spoilsport In Ahmedabad? Is There A Reserve Day?

Rains have already affected a couple of pervious game in IPL 2024

The seventeenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has reached the climax stage as four teams – Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru – confirmed their spots for the playoffs. Rain has affected two out of the last three matches in the league stage, Kolkata Knight Riders have not played a competitive game since May 11th. Their last two games against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals were called off, without a ball being bowled. Now, with the playoffs set in Ahmedabad, and monsoon hovering across various parts of the country, fans are worried, what happens if Qualifier 1 is washed out due to rain. WEATHER CONDITIONS The forecast says the weather will be clear and sunny through the week in Ahmedabad. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also mentioned that a heatwave is expected in parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, over the next five days. In previous years, only the final had a reserve day. However, for IPL 2024, all four playoff matches have a reserve day. If a match is interrupted, it will continue or be played on the reserve day.  WHAT IF THE RESERVE DAY IS ALSO WASHED OUT? According to IPL playoff rules, a match result can only be decided if both teams play at least 5 overs each. If one team has already played more than the required overs, the DLS method will be used to determine the result. The last cutout time to go ahead with the proceedings during the IPL Qualifier 1 and the other playoffs games is 10;56 PM / 22:56 IST. The game shall be called off if there is no sign of play post the deadline. IS THERE ANY EXTRA TIME AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE PLAYOFFS MATCH ON THE SCHEDULED DAY?Yes, according to IPL playing conditions, there is an extra 120 minutes available for each playoff match. This means a playoff match could start as late as 9:40 PM on the original day without reducing the number of overs. The 10-minute interval and time-outs will still be included. WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF A COMPLETE WASH OUT?If Qualifier 1 is washed out, the first-placed team moves directly to the final. The second-placed team will go to Qualifier 2, where they will play against the winner of the Eliminator match. As the IPL 2024 reaches its final stage, the competition among the remaining four teams promises to be intense and captivating. The IPL 2024 Playoffs will include four matches:  KKR finished at the top of the table with 20 points, followed by SRH and RR with 17 points each, and RCB with 14 points. The Qualifier 1 will feature Shreyas Iyer’s KKR taking on the formidable looking Pat Cummins’ SRH. KKR has been having a dream run so far in the IPL 2024, however SRH with their fiery top order batters and astute leadership of Patrick Cummins has been a spoilsport for all the other teams in the tournament so far.  Apart from SRH, it’s the weather that also has been a massive spoilsport during the course of the tournament this season with a couple of games either abandoned or reduced to a certain extent due to rain delays. The IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad was delayed to the backup day because it rained so much that they couldn’t even start the match on the original day. Will this happen again this year? If yes then let’s check about the reserve day for Qualifier 1.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

Goran Ivanisevic Reveals Health Challenges While Working with Novak Djokovic

Ivanisevic Reveals Health Struggles While Coaching Djokovic

World number one tennis player Novak Djokovic surprised everyone by parting ways with Goran Ivanisevic. They had a very successful partnership, starting with Djokovic winning Wimbledon in 2019, the first tournament with Ivanisevic as his coach. “Goran and I decided to stop working together a few days ago. Our on court chemistry had its ups and downs, but our friendship was always rock solid,” the 24-time Grand Slam champion wrote on Instagram in March after talking to Ivanisevic in Miami. Djokovic’s words were accurate—their relationship during matches had its highs and lows, with Djokovic often expressing his frustrations toward the 2001 Wimbledon winner.  Ivanisevic has now talked about the pressure he felt coaching the 24-time Grand Slam champion, admitting it led to some sleepless nights. “I always had good [sleeping] tablets,” he told Blick. “No, seriously: you have pressure every day in this industry. But I was completely okay with it. You get used to the circumstances.” With Ivanisevic being Croatian and Djokovic Serbian, the 52-year-old said their similar backgrounds helped. He continued: “It helped that we both came from the Balkans. Novak and I are similar. I was always prepared for his possible reactions.” Since Djokovic is such a great player, there was extra pressure on Ivanisevic. “Well, when you train Novak Djokovic, anything other than winning the title at any tournament is a failure. That’s a lot of pressure to deal with,” the former world No. 2 added. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

The Winning Formula That Makes CSK Fans’ Favorites

The secret that makes Chennai Super Kings (CSK) loved by so many cricket followers across the nation.

In the exhilarating realm of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the correlation between winning and fandom is undeniable, exemplified by franchises like the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI), each boasting five prestigious titles.  These powerhouse teams not only dominate the leaderboard but also command immense viewership and sponsorship volumes, illustrating the profound impact of victory on fan engagement. However, amidst the towering giants, there exists a compelling anomaly – the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite their trophy cabinet remaining vacant, RCB enjoys an ardent and steadfast fanbase.  This intriguing dynamic prompts a deeper exploration into the intricate relationship between success on the field and the fervor of fandom. Through comprehensive surveys conducted across 13 Indian cities, including primary hubs for all IPL franchises, intriguing patterns emerge. Notably, 50% of respondents express allegiance to a favorite team, with a significant portion aligning with CSK, MI, RCB, and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).  While MI’s following has faced fluctuations following a title drought, CSK’s popularity remains steadfast, a testament to their enduring legacy.  What makes CSK such a popular and loving franchise? 1. The Thala EffectAt the heart of CSK’s unwavering fandom lies the enigmatic figure of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, fondly revered as ‘Thala’ by CSK devotees. Dhoni’s magnetic allure transcends mere cricketing prowess; it embodies a cultural phenomenon.  Despite an inconsistent performance in IPL 2024, CSK fans steadfastly rally behind their beloved captain, epitomizing the unparalleled influence of a sporting icon. Dhoni’s illustrious career, punctuated by two World Cup triumphs for India, continues to captivate audiences, even in his twilight years. The anticipation surrounding Dhoni’s every appearance underscores his unparalleled star power, a sentiment echoed by broadcasters who prioritize showcasing his on-field exploits. The impending specter of Dhoni’s retirement looms large, fueling a palpable urgency among fans to witness his magic firsthand. This sentiment is palpable in the electrifying atmosphere that engulfs CSK’s home ground, where a sea of yellow adorns the stands in a vibrant display of devotion. Karan Sharma, a long time CSK loyalist and an avid M.S. Dhoni fan said “Mahendra Singh Dhoni isn’t just a cricketer, he’s the heartbeat of Chennai Super Kings. His aura transcends boundaries. It’s more than just a game when he steps onto the field wearing the CSK jersey. Dhoni’s association with CSK isn’t just about cricket,  it’s about emotion, loyalty, and the belief that together, they can conquer any challenge.“ 2. Thala First CSK Then FansFor many fans, M.S. Dhoni is the main reason they love and support the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). These fans admire Dhoni for his calmness under pressure, smart decisions, and amazing cricket skills. Their love for CSK comes from their deep respect and affection for Dhoni.  Whether Dhoni is batting, keeping wickets, or leading the team, these fans cheer loudly and passionately. To them, supporting CSK means supporting Dhoni, and they follow the team mainly because of their admiration for him. This special connection makes their support for CSK incredibly strong and heartfelt. CSK’s resilience in the face of adversity further solidifies their bond with fans.  As CSK embarks on yet another quest for IPL glory, their legion of fans stands steadfast, unwavering in their support. While victory on the field undoubtedly fuels fandom, it is the enduring legacy of icons like Dhoni and the indomitable spirit of franchises like CSK that truly capture the hearts and imaginations of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. The question still lies, will the fans still support CSK even if M.S. Dhoni hangs up his boots? The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

Umpires & iHawk cameras – England’s Tech Aide to Regain Ashes Down Under

England's technology driven plan to beat Australia down under.

In the world of cricket, change is often as slow as the pace of a test match on a lazy afternoon. Yet, behind the scenes, a revolution is underway. England under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum are doing everything in their power to win the Ashes Down Under in 2025.  Even if that means, taking the help of technology to beat their oldest rivals. The term iHawk is doing the rounds in England domestic circuit these days. What is iHawk? The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) performance team is orchestrating a groundbreaking project, crafting a “What It Takes To Win” model tailored specifically for the 2025-26 tour to Australia.  This model draws from the wealth of knowledge possessed by current and former coaches and players, as well as data accumulated from past tours down under.  Once refined, it will guide decisions regarding talent identification and aid selectors in assembling a squad capable of securing England’s first Ashes victory in Australia since 2010-11. The ultimate goal is to breathe life into data and harness its power to achieve success on the field. Facilitating this endeavor is the ECB’s innovative iHawk technology, simplifying and enhancing the collection of crucial cricketing data.  How does iHawk work?By utilizing cameras worn by umpires, iHawk meticulously tracks every delivery, providing insights into factors such as seam movement, release height, pace, and swing. This data is then transformed into an overlay, complete with pertinent information displayed on-screen. Has iHawk been used before?A soft launch of iHawk in 2023 saw extensive data collection from over 200 matches and more than 50,000 deliveries bowled by 250 bowlers. This season marks the first time every domestic men’s and women’s match will be covered, significantly expanding the dataset.  Alongside contracted players, emerging talents like Matthew Potts, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue are under scrutiny, with plans to delve into the nuanced differences between the Dukes and Kookaburra balls. As England’s Test summer approaches, this wealth of data will inform the selection committee, comprising captain Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum, managing director Rob Key, and national selector Luke Wright. The selection process may adopt a forward-thinking approach, with an eye on future series, including the Ashes, to ensure the inclusion of players adept in diverse conditions. Any major reactionsStafford Murray, ECB’s performance lead, elucidates the “performance backwards” approach, emphasizing the importance of setting long-term goals and working backward to achieve them. This methodology proved successful in the selection of Shoaib Bashir for the India tour, highlighting the synergy between data analysis and on-field performance. iHawk, described as HawkEye “lite,” has evolved significantly, transitioning from cumbersome equipment to a streamlined harness equipped with a GoPro and a mobile phone. While not real-time, iHawk’s data is rapidly processed and shared among analysts, aiding decision-making processes. What’s in it for the bowlers? For bowlers, iHawk provides insights into delivery speeds and variations, while batters benefit from analyses of their shot selection and impact on match outcomes. The introduction of an “impact metric” underscores the ECB’s commitment to evaluating players beyond traditional statistics, focusing on their contributions to match dynamics. Umpires also benefit from iHawk, utilizing its insights to refine decision-making and familiarize themselves with players’ tendencies. While not intended as a substitute for DRS, iHawk serves as a valuable developmental tool, enhancing umpiring standards and adapting to evolving gameplay trends. Looking ahead, iHawk holds immense potential to revolutionize cricketing analytics and decision-making processes, paving the way for a more data-driven and informed approach to the sport. As England prepares to battle for the Ashes, the fusion of technology and tradition heralds a new era in cricketing excellence. MI's Rohit Sharma's candid remark in front of the camera goes viral.

Rohit Sharma, probably walked off the field in the famous Mumbai Indians blue and gold at Wankhede on Friday. In Mumbai Indians’ last home and league game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against the Lucknow Super Giants, the Hitman smashed a scintillating 68 off 38 deliveries.  The onslaught saw 10 fours and 3 sixes coming off the Hitman’s bat. After getting dismissed, the crowd erupted and gave a standing ovation to Mumbai’s beloved son. The run-fest on the cricket pitch was intense, but much before the start of the game, the action had already begun. In a humorous video, India’s captain and Mumbai Indians player Rohit Sharma was seen making a humble request to the official broadcaster’s cameraman to turn off the audio while he chatted with Dhawal Kulkarni.  Rohit’s request came just days after his engaging conversation with Kolkata Knight Riders assistant coach Abhishek Nayar went viral on social media. In the new video, Rohit makes a funny appeal, saying, “Bhai audio band karo haan. Ek audio ne mera wat laga diya. (Brother, please turn off the audio. One audio has already made things difficult for me),” as recorded by Star Sports. This recent incident occurred when Rohit was having a lighthearted chat with Kulkarni before Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 game against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium. Before Mumbai Indians’ IPL 2024 match against KKR at Eden Gardens, a conversation between former MI captain Rohit Sharma and KKR assistant coach Abhishek Nayar went viral.  The video was reportedly deleted by KKR after it gained attention for the wrong reasons, which only fueled further speculation. Despite the background noise in the viral video, social media users managed to decipher what was said between Rohit and Nayar. In the viral video, Rohit Sharma was heard saying, “Ek ek cheez change ho raha hai…Woh unke upar hai…Jo bhi hai woh mera ghar hai bhai, woh temple jo hai na maine banwaya hai (Everything is changing one by one… It’s on them… Whatever, but it’s my home brother, it’s the temple that I constructed).” Rohit Sharma Explains Abhishek Nayar What MI & Wankhede Means To Himhttps://x.com/Iconic_Hitman/status/1788977747865293177?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1788977747865293177%7Ctwgr%5E7f567364a1843c63b353911fbfba331b19df9098%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fsports.ndtv.com%2Fipl-2024%2Fek-audio-ne-wat-laga-diya-rohit-sharmas-humble-request-to-cameraman-in-viral-video-5687281 After a long chat with Abhishek Nayar and also after Gautam Gambhir who also is associated with KKR being the front-runner in the race of Indian Cricket Team’s coach, speculations are floating around that Rohit Sharma could be probably seen donning the KKR purple the next season if MI fails to retain him. It would be really sad to see Rohit leave a team that he built and turned into a winning team gifting them with 5 IPL titles.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

These expenses include: Broadcast Rights – BCCI’s golden goose The BCCI makes a major chunk of its revenues from broadcasting rights. The Board sells the broadcast / television rights and digital platforms rights to the bidders and makes a colossal amount, which is later shared between the BCCI and the ten franchises. These sponsorships provide maximum visibility to the sponsors right through the tournament. Tata is the current title sponsor, having bagged the official rights from the BCCI, for a period of four years (2024-2028). Tata will pay the BCCI a sum of Rs 500 Crore annually. Other than this the marketing campaigns and creating engaging activations also require a lot of money to be invested, to maximize the impact of their deal with the BCCI. Merchandising – delivering fans what they want The IPL has a passionate fan base. They can go to any length and breadth of the nation to follow their favourite teams. This love also involved buying team jerseys, caps, bats, and other memorabilia, thus generating massive revenues for the BCCI. Ticket Sales: Inside-the-stadium experience Though cricket attendance took a hit during the Covid-19 impact in 2020, ticket sales have returned to normalcy for the past three seasons. The franchises earn revenues by selling the tickets to the fans during the IPL matches. By offering premium benefits, they can generate a higher revenue on the ticket. When it comes to the investment part, the franchises have to pump in money to cover the costs associated with printing tickets and managing the distribution process.
