The ninth ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will have a record 20 teams. The tournament will be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies from June 1-29.

Twenty teams are divided into four groups of five for the first stage. Each team will play at least four matches against others in their group. The top two teams from each group move on to the Super 8s stage, while the bottom three teams are out of the tournament. 

In the Super 8s stage, the eight remaining teams are divided into two groups. Each team will play three matches against others in their new group to decide the semi-finalists.

The semi-finals will be between the top two teams from each Super 8s group. The winners will then play in the final in Barbados on June 29.

OVERVIEW – ICC MEN’S T20 WORLD CUP 2024

VENUES
The tournament will use three venues in the USA and six in the Caribbean. There will be 16 matches in Lauderhill, Dallas, and New York. The big match between India and Pakistan is set for June 9 at the new Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in Long Island.

USA:
1. Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York (Capacity: 34,000)
2. Central Broward Park, Florida (Capacity: 25,000)
3. Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas (Capacity: 15,000)

Forty-one matches will take place in the Caribbean across six different countries. The semi-finals will be held in Trinidad and Tobago and Guyana. The final match, where the winner will be decided, is scheduled for June 29 in Barbados.

WILL THERE BE AN OPENING CEREMONY?
The ICC has not yet confirmed the details of the opening ceremony before the first match between the USA and Canada on June 1 at 7:30 PM local time (00:30 GMT) in Dallas. However, there has been a lot of promotion for a pre-match event on June 2, when the co-hosts West Indies will play Papua New Guinea in Guyana at 10:30 AM local time (14:30 GMT).

SPECIAL CONDITIONS FOR T20 WORLD CUP
If a match ends in a tie, a Super Over will be played. If the Super Over also ends in a tie, more Super Overs will be played until there is a winner.

Extra time is set aside to ensure all knockout matches, including the semi-finals and final, are completed.

For both semi-finals, there is a total of 250 minutes of extra time. The first semi-final on June 26 has 60 minutes of extra time on the same day and an additional 190 minutes on June 27.

The second semi-final on June 27 has 250 minutes of extra time on the same day. The final on June 29 has a reserve day on June 30.

WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR TIES, SUPER OVERS AND RAIN DELAYS?
– All tied matches will go to a Super Over. If the Super Over is also tied, more Super Overs will be played until there is a winner.
– If a match is delayed by weather or other interruptions, each team must complete five overs for a result to be declared in the group stage and Super Eight.
– Both the semi-finals and the final will have extra time to allow for completion in case of delays.
– The final has a reserve day on Sunday, June 30.
