Vaibhav Suryavanshi Becomes Youngest Centurion In Men’s T20 Cricket

Rajasthan Royal’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered records on Monday, April 28 as he became youngest-ever centurion in men’s T20 cricket. Suryavanshi, who turned 14, last month hammered a hundred during an Indian Premier League match against Gujarat Titans at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

The Bihar born cricketer hit a hundred in only 35 deliveries. In process he also hit the second-fastest hundred in the history of the IPL. Chris Gayle had hit a 30-ball ton while playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Royal Challengers Bengaluru) against now defunct Pune Warriors in 2013. He now also holds the record of the quickest hundred by an Indian batter in the league. The previous record was held by Yusuf Pathan, when he reached three-figure mark against Mumbai Indians in 2011.

The previous record for the quickest hundred in the men’s T20 cricket was held by India’s Vijay Zol. Zol, who is now 30, hit a century aged 18 years and 118 days for Ahmedabad in a 2013 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy match against Mumbai.

Suryavanshi’s knock was studded with seven fours and 11 sixes. It helped Rajasthan Royals chase a target of 210 in just 15.5 overs with 8 wickets in hand. With 11 sixes he matched Murali Vijay’s record of most number of sixes by an Indian in an IPL innings.

Deservedly, Suryavanshi was adjudged the Player of the Match. While accepting the Player of the Match award he thanked his parents his team for their unwavering support.

Royals signed Suryavanshi last year during the mega auction in Jeddah for ₹1.1 crore and the boy became IPL’s youngest millionaire. Before being signed by the Royals, Suryavanshi had already represented India Under-19. In a four-day game against Australia Under-19 he hit a 58-ball century.

Suryavanshi made his IPL debut earlier this season in a game against Lucknow Super Giants. In his maiden IPL appearance the left handed batter played a sparkling knock of 34. He hit the very-first delivery of his IPL career for a six.

A day after his thrilling performance Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar lauded the boy and announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh for his stellar performance.
