Dwayne Bravo, the Champion, unfortunately had to end his Caribbean Premier League (CPL) journey with a groin strain and not with a bang. A man who made death bowling look like a bright sunny day at the beach was cut down cruelly chasing Faf du Plessis‘ shot that seemed to have no end, wrenching agony out of his leg-and every Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) fan.
What’s A Groin Injury?
In most cases, an injury to the groin occurs through overstretching or tearing of muscles, tendons or ligaments in the groin or the lower part of the abdomen. Most commonly, it is caused by a situation where a muscle is overstretched or subjected to sudden intense force. These are usually conditions that require a sudden change of direction or any explosive movement during a game, such as soccer, hockey, or sprinting. Pain, inflammation, ecchymosis, and stiffness are typical signs that make it so challenging to walk or to participate in athletic activities. The treatment ranges from rest, physical therapy and surgery in extreme cases.
A Last Goodbye
Bravo had written a grand CPL farewell, perhaps one in which he hit a six off the last ball and moonwalked his way into retirement. We rather got something else – a cameo nobody could’ve predicted. Bravo walked out to bat at number 11, faced just one ball, right on the thigh and then limped off the field. No dramatic finish, no last celebrations. Just a brave, hobbling goodbye that was as heart-wrenching as it was heroic.
Bravo’s Trophy Cabinet? Full to the Brim
Besides, Bravo has not much to prove anymore. Five titles in the CPL, three of which are with TKR and one with St Kitts and Nevis Patriots will speak for themselves. Bravo is the man who quite nonchalantly captained back-to-back titles in 2017 and 2018. Bravo’s legacy is secured, even if his final bow involved a bat, a thigh guard and an unfortunate limp.
True to Bravo style, he may limp off the CPL stage, however his legacy leaves behind a smile that will always be as big as he is.
