AUS v IND: The MCG Rises To Nitish Kumar Reddy

Cricketing tales of sacrifice are often the pillars of success. For a youngster like Nitish Kumar Reddy, the dream of representing India in test match cricket and standing on top of the game happened in the most remarkable of ways-at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on Day 3 of the 4th test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Nitish Kumar Reddy Scripts History At The MCG At the age of 21, Nitish Kumar Reddy achieved a feat that no Indian had done before him. Entering at number eight, Reddy became the first ever Indian to score a century in Australia while coming in at number eight. He scored a rather patient 100 runs made off 171 balls inclusive of nine boundaries and a six while playing in front of the daunting crowd at the MCG. While the crowd erupted in applause, the young Reddy stood tall, a wave of relief washing over him, as his century symbolized not just his personal achievement, but the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice. Reddy’s Father’s Sacrifice Nitish Kumar Reddy’s  journey to this moment has not been an easy one. Indeed, it was paved with immense challenges not only for Reddy but also for his family, particularly his father. While many would have doubted the boy’s pursuit of a cricketing career, Reddy’s father remained steady in his support. He had given up a stable job, believing in his son’s potential despite the doubts and criticisms that often came their way. For years, his father had borne the dual load of financial strain and the emotional cost, all that time urging his son on, encouraging him to pursue this dream of the game. Reddy’s Awakening: Cost Of Sacrifice For the young cricket enthusiast, cricket was, after all, just something one enjoyed without fully being conscious of the sacrifices he had to make for him to pursue his dream. However, the time the sacrifice really weighed up: on finances perhaps but it weighed up something bigger-those sacrifices placed enormous weight. In that minute Reddy’s attitude in front of the game went over the wall. He did all his own eyes saw as pain reflected through his father, in those tears Reddy took the vow for a reason. He knew that for the sacrifices his dad made, he had to give everything to his dream. Reddy’s Commitment Towards The Game It was followed by an extreme dedication for a year of that time. Each practice and each match was the ability to prove to himself that to the man who stood by his side for all those years these sacrifices were not wasted on him. He developed really very fast as a person and the changes went not only for skills each day but also as mental strength that would produce performances nobody would doubt again for his talent. Reddy Rises To The Occasion At The MCG It was an emotional moment at the MCG on Saturday, December 28, 2024, after all those years of struggle and a sense that all his sweat had just paid off when he was raising his bat to a crowd as an acknowledgement and a tribute, for a century wasn’t just just a milestone but also gratitude to the man who has made it all possible, his father. Reddy’s century came in front of his father. Nitish Kumar Reddy surely is living all the boys’ dream. The True Measure Of Reddy’s Success In that moment, it would be clear that success did not just lie in the runs scored on the field, but in the strength and determination and support that had shaped Nitish Kumar Reddy to become the player he became. Reddy’s journey was the story of one man’s ambition, a father’s sacrifices, a son’s commitment and the power of self-belief that transforms a dream into reality. AUS v IND: Should Virat Kohli Have Treated Sam Konstas Better?

Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas

The Boxing Day test at the MCG witnessed the 19-year-old Sam Konstas make his international debut in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian rookie immediately made his mark with an audacious batting display, reverse-scooping India’s pace bowling spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah, for a stunning six. This indeed has to be said about the way Konstas approached the game with no fear. Sam Konstas slammed a brisk 60 off 65 balls. Still, what stole all that was happening was an unfortunate fireworks incident when Virat Kohli seemed to deliberately bump his shoulder to Konstas. Did Kohli Bump Konstas Intentionally? Virat Kohli, at one time after an over went up to Sam Konstas and shoulder-shovelled the young Aussie. A seemingly unprovoked body check had people wondering about Kohli’s motives. Was it that he was frustrated with the audacity of the younger bloke or something more? Whatever was there, it made Virat Kohli look aggressive, especially coming out against a debutant who in person is also very young in age. Later in the evening, Virat Kohli was sanctioned 20% of his match fees and given one demerit point by the ICC for his on-field behaviour. Was That Really Needed From Kohli? While emotions often run high in the heat of competition, this incident set questions about the conduct of a player of Kohli’s stature. His actions could be seen as needing to be unnecessarily hostile towards a youngster making the mark on the biggest of stages. Kohli, as one of the most experienced players in world cricket, carries the responsibility of setting a good example for the younger generation. Did Spirit Of Cricket Go For A Toss? Konstas, who had once revealed how much he adored Kohli in the media, seemed to be put between the devil and the deep blue sea. Here was a young cricketer, full of big dreams and with a thirst to prove himself, receiving an unexpected shoulder charge from one of his idols. The confrontation stood starkly against the mutual respect that often defines cricket’s values, where even fiercest rivalries are conducted with a sense of sportsmanship. Should Kohli Have Been A Mentor? This incident raises questions over how senior players treat their junior colleagues, especially on debut. Debut is the time to encourage them, make them feel welcomed and give them all positive vibes. Instead, “welcome to international cricket” would have been in much better taste than this shoulder-bumping gesture which came with an air of irritation for the young man’s uncanny ways of playing. In fact, it was not just about Sam Konstas to prove his worth, but Virat Kohli also had something to show the world – that he was the first one in a competitive atmosphere to have respect for the game as well as respect for one’s fellow players. Senior Players’ Influence On Youngsters It is important to understand that sports are more than just individual performances. It is a team effort and harmony in the dressing room is essential. A leader both on and off the field, Virat Kohli should have realized that his actions could set the wrong tone for the younger generation watching. Sam Konstas may have been a rookie, however, Kohli’s experience should have guided him to a more respectful interaction, one that fostered an environment where new talent could thrive. A Race Between Passion And Sportsmanship For Kohli At the end of it all, when Virat Kohli is most brilliant on the field, it was his passion and intensity that played against him in this instance. Perhaps, he needed more temperance, especially with such young, impressionable players around. Cricket is a game of respect and veterans like Virat Kohli are expected to set a good example, not only in their skills but also in their character. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

AUS v IND: Tanush Kotian’s Story From Mumbai To Melbourne

Tanush Kotian

Mumbai’s off-spin-bowling all-rounder Tanush Kotian, received his biggest call-up for a place in the Indian Cricket Team for the fourth test of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy to be held in Melbourne.  Kotian Still In His Early Days Aged just 26, Kotian’s call-up for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 brings him to a new pinnacle as part of his cricketing journey built after years of arduous work, dogged persistence, and relentless commitment to cricketing. His rise to the Indian Cricket Team is a sign of India’s domestic cricket systems in producing world-class talent. From Local Streets To Professional Cricket Tanush Kotian’s cricketing journey started on the streets of Vikhroli, a suburb in Mumbai, where he honed his skills in the highly competitive environment of the city’s local cricket scene. A versatile player in his early years, Kotian began as an opening batsman and even bowled pace before a growth spurt pushed him to specialize in off-spin. His father, a semi-professional cricketer who runs a coaching academy, played a vital role in fostering his love for the game. Kotian Breaking Through With Mumbai Tanush Kotian’s breakthrough came when he joined Mumbai’s senior team in the 2022-2023 season after being dropped early in his career. Despite the setback, Kotian’s determination saw him rise through the ranks, leading to consistent performances that garnered attention. His off-spin bowling, along with his rise as a batsman, made him a true all-rounder. With his ability to extract turn and bounce at a pace of 85-90kph, Tanush Kotian’s bowling has often drawn comparisons with R. Ashwin, India’s legendary off-spinner. Tanush Kotian Shines In The Domestic Circuit Tanush Kotian’s stint with Mumbai in the season 2023-24 was nothing but phenomenal. He played a pivotal role in Mumbai’s historic Ranji Trophy victory, winning the Player-of-the-Tournament award with 502 runs and 29 wickets. His all-round brilliance included a memorable first-class century against Baroda, where he scored 120 runs off 115 balls at No. 10, setting a record 232-run partnership with Tushar Deshpande. His performances in the semi-finals and finals further stamped his reputation, with contributions like his 89* against Tamil Nadu and 7 wickets in the final against Vidarbha. Tanush Kotian’s India A Call-Up These performances not only helped Mumbai win the Ranji Trophy for the 42nd time but also caught the eye of the national selectors. A few months later, Kotian was selected for the India A team, which toured Australia ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His stellar performances in domestic cricket, coupled with his excellent temperament and technical abilities, made him a strong contender for a spot in the senior squad. Is Tanush Kotian Called-Up To Fill Ashwin’s Shoes? Tanush Kotian’s rise also coincided with the retirement of R. Ashwin from international cricket, as a move that opened a window of opportunity for such emerging spin bowlers like Kotian. Ashwin, whose impact on Indian spin bowling has been monumental, became a guide for Kotian when he joined Rajasthan Royals for the IPL 2024. Although Kotian didn’t feature much in the tournament, the learnings for the young cricketer must have been very rich indeed from people like Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal and Keshav Maharaj. It is well known that playing IPL helped him get more refined on how to play the spin bowlers in proper red-ball cricket. Rahane Backs Kotian Despite his success, Tanush Kotian remains focused on improving his skills. As Ajinkya Rahane, Mumbai’s captain, once told him, his next challenge is to continue evolving as a bowler who can take wickets even when conditions aren’t favorable for spin. This advice from Rahane reflects Kotian’s constant desire to push boundaries, a quality that will serve him well as he transitions to the international stage. Now all eyes would turn toward the promising newcomer as Tanush Kotian is scheduled to board for Melbourne to play with the Indian Cricket Team while hoping to behold the new chapter in India’s journey towards spin bowling legacy. AUS v IND: Jasprit Bumrah Breaks Records In Australia

Jasprit Bumrah

India’s Jasprit Bumrah continued to rewrite the record books in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, further cementing his place as one of India’s greatest fast bowlers. On Tuesday, Bumrah achieved another major milestone by surpassing a record held by Indian cricket legend, Kapil Dev. Bumrah Surpasses Kapil Dev’s Record In a great achievement in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India’s spearhead pacer Jasprit Bumrah has gone down in history by breaking the record of the most wickets taken by an Asian bowler in Australia. The milestone was achieved by Bumrah on Tuesday as he took two quick wickets for Australia in the second innings of the third test match at the GABBA. Bumrah Takes Two Quick Wickets The day began with Bumrah striking in the very first over with the new ball. In the third over of Australia’s second innings, he dismissed Usman Khawaja, breaking the batter’s defense with a delivery that clipped the inside edge, struck the back pad and rattled the off stump. Just over an over later, he took the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne, as the Australian batsman gave a faint nick to a length ball which was easily caught by the wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. Bumrah’s Record Breaking Tally With these two wickets, Bumrah now has 52 wickets in just 10 Test matches in Australia, surpassing Kapil Dev’s tally of 51 wickets in 11 appearances. Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Nawaz (50 wickets) rounds out the top three among Asian bowlers in Australia. Bumrah Leads In The Current Series Jasprit Bumrah  has shown consistency and adaptability in foreign conditions. He has been in exceptional form throughout the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is currently the leading wicket-taker, with 21 wickets from just six innings at an outstanding average of 10.71. Bumrah’s 21 wickets are now the sixth-best figure by an Indian in a tour of Australia. Bumrah’s Two Five-Wicket Hauls Bumrah’s record-breaking performances in the series include two five-wicket hauls. His first came in Perth, where he led India in Rohit Sharma’s absence. The second came in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. Besides, Bumrah has now matched his 2018/19 series tally, becoming only the second Indian bowler to pick 20-plus wickets in two separate tours of Australia. The first to achieve the feat was Anil Kumble who did it in 2003/04 (24 wickets) and in 2007/08 (20 wickets). Bumrah’s Legacy In Australian Conditions Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s lead bowler both during home seasons and away tours. His position is well etched among India’s best bowling and as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 goes ahead, all eyes will be on Jasprit Bumrah and what new milestones he might achieve for his country on the Australian turf. The Dhawal Kulkarni Story

Dhawal Kulkarni

For generations in Indian cricket, it was a given that the place for batting brilliance had always been in the bastions of Mumbai. However, at one point, it was a young, anonymous fast bowler from the city of dreams who broke all that was known and went about winning everyone’s hearts. Not that this young wonder was a just any pacer, rather he was Dhawal Kulkarni, the most inspiring story of dedication and hardwork that now, is told to all the young fast bowlers in Mumbai. Dhawal Kulkarni’s Early Yet Impressive Years In Domestic Cricket The journey started in the under-17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2005-06, when a tall and lean boy with a pace clocking mid-130’s emerged as a force to reckon with. While Mumbai was known for its batting masterclass, Dhawal Kulkarni brought a refreshing change by storming into the domestic circuit with his lethal pace. He was soon noticed by the selectors and had fantastic performances at the Under-19 state level, where he took 8 for 47 against Tamil Nadu, which got him into the India U-19 team for the 2007 tour to Sri Lanka. There, Kulkarni again stunned everyone and got himself a place in the Mumbai Ranji Team for the 2008 season, where his debut season was phenomenal. Dhawal Kulkarni ended the season as the Ranji Trophy’s highest wicket-taker, with 42 wickets, playing an important role in Mumbai’s title-winning campaign. Dhawal Kulkarni’s Maiden India Call-Up Dhawal’s career didn’t stop there. His exceptional rise led him to the national team, with a call-up for the India Test squad in 2009 for the tour of New Zealand. However, it was in the 2012-13 Ranji Trophy season that he made history for himself. Dhawal has led Mumbai to their 40th Ranji Trophy win by taking the match-winning five-wicket hauls both in the semifinal and final, out of which his spell is worth mentioning of 5/32 against Saurashtra in the finals. His performances were so consistent that he was soon called into the India A team for the 2014 Quadrangular series, where he played an important role in India’s title win. Dhawal Kulkarni Shines With Both Bat And Ball At The Rajasthan Royals Dhawal Kulkarni’s IPL journey started with the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2008, however he truly found himself as the lead bowler of a bowling attack the year he joined the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2014. His line and length immaculate, Dhawal was one of the most dependable bowlers for the Royals, often coming up when it mattered the most – delivering crucial breakthroughs. Dhawal was bowling brilliantly. What came as a shock to everyone was his batting. He struck some serious blows out of the park in one of the games against the Chennai Super Kings in Dubai. With such high-scoring nature of IPL 2014, Dhawal’s bowling economy rate of 8.18 stood out as he showed how to control the game and stop the runs from flowing. Dhawal Kulkarni’s International Debut September 02, 2014 will always have some fond memories. Dhawal Kulkarni made his international debut in September 2014 when India toured England. In the home series that was held later the same year at home against Sri Lanka, Dhawal performed even better, taking eight wickets at an average of just 18.62. His career reached a new height when he represented India at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2015 in Australia.   Dhawal Kulkarni At IPL 2015 Dhawal Kulkarni continued to dominate in the IPL. Playing for the Rajasthan Royals in 2015, he single-handedly dismantled the batting line-up of Sunrisers Hyderabad with figures of 2/9 in three overs, providing the critical breakthroughs when his team needed it most.  Dhawal Kulkarni Blows RCB Top Order In IPL 2016 In IPL 2016, the Rajasthan Royals were suspended along with the Chennai Super Kings due to obvious reasons and Dhawal Kulkarni found himself donning the orange kit of the newly established Gujarat Lions. Speaking of Dhawal at the Gujarat Lions, how can we even forget him dismantling the ferocious Royal Challengers Bengaluru top order.  Dhawal and his Gujarat Lions were up against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in front of a daunting Chinnaswamy crowd in the playoffs of IPL 2016. The dangerous looking Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle were out to bat. We all know Virat was only upto smashing every bowler for a four or a six in IPL 2016. Dhawal Kulkarni was given the charge to handle the new ball. He marked his run-up in the second over of the innings and soon dismissed Virat Kohli for a duck. Dhawal soon came in for his second over and bamboozled the dangerous looking Chris Gayle this time for a score of 9 off 11. https://www.iplt20.com/video/5031 Dhawal was breathing fire. He went on dismissing KL Rahul for a duck the very next ball. It seemed that Dhawal was bowling rockets at the RCB batters and RCB were falling like a pack of cards in front of Dhawal Kulkarni. Dhawal’s fourth wicket came in the form of Sachin Baby. Through the innings Dhawal Kulkarni made sure that RCB was completely under pressure. Dhawal Kulkarni roared at Chinnaswamy as the lead bowler for the Gujarat Lions.  Dhawal Kulkarni continued with the Gujarat Lions for IPL 2017 as well.    Dhawal Kulkarni Shows Athleticism In IPL 2019 Dhawal was back with the Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2018-2019 season. Dhawal’s 2019 IPL season will always be remembered for his outstanding catch at long-off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH just needed 82 off 55 and were right in the hunt while chasing a target of 199. SRH’s Jonny Bairstow was set on 45 off 27 deliveries with the intention to go hard and cross the boundary rope as much as he can. However there was no escape. Dhawal Kulkarni was at the boundary and his fielding was as tight as that of a high security prison. Dhawal took a screamer just as the ball was going to cross the boundary ropes. Bairstow was

How A Scientific Vest Is Changing The Way Team India Trains?

scientific vest

The Indian Cricket Team has landed on the Australian shores at Perth and have begun their practice for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. While training, most of us would have probably noticed a couple of players from the Indian Cricket Team wearing a vest and would have raised questions on what the vest is all about. Well, the vest is completely backed by sports science and is changing the way the Indian Cricket Team trains.  The Role Of The Scientific Vest In Sports Technology At first glance, it might appear to be a sports bra that has crossed the gender divide, worn by both male and female athletes. But in reality, it is a sports wearable technology—a compression vest designed with a small device no bigger than the palm of your hand, nestled in a pouch between the shoulder blades. This device, though barely noticeable to those who wear it, has revolutionised how athletes prepare for their sport, especially in team-based games. This is the world of the GPS tracker—a piece of sports technology that has unified the diverse realm of professional sports and transformed how athletes train, analyse and perform. Today, nearly every elite athlete in team sports around the globe relies on this innovation. Evolution Of The Scientific Vest When sports science first introduced the GPS tracker into athletic performance, its primary function was simple: measure the distance an athlete covered during a game. But sports technology has come a long way since then. Modern devices, now equipped with accelerometers, track not just the distance but the frequency and intensity of an athlete’s accelerations and decelerations. Gyroscopes and magnetometers work in tandem to map body movements in 3D, monitor directional changes and even capture an athlete’s exact position on the field. Additionally, heart rate monitors provide crucial data that, when processed by sophisticated algorithms, help measure training intensity and assess fatigue levels. How Does The Scientific Vest Enhance Performance? The beauty of this sports wearable technology lies in how the data collected is utilised. All the metrics from an athlete’s movements are sent to a central database where analysts can track progress in real time. This allows for immediate performance feedback, as well as long-term comparisons of training data over weeks and months. The ability to observe fatigue levels or detect early signs of injury offers coaches and trainers valuable insights to optimise an athlete’s conditioning and prevent overexertion. The Birth Of The Scientific Vest The journey of the scientific vest began in 2000 with a collaboration between the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) and the Cooperative Research Centres, which aimed to develop sports technology for use in real-world settings. The initial prototypes were large and impractical, so they were initially used on rowing boats to measure roll, pitch and yaw. It wasn’t until 2002 that the devices became small enough to be taped to an athlete’s body. Early models were quite basic, measuring little more than the distance covered during a training session. However, over the next few years, the device was further refined and by 2006, the technology was commercialised and ready for use in professional sports. Widespread Use Of Scientific Vest In Contemporary Sports Today, sports wearable technology by Catapult Sports is a staple in nearly every elite sports team across 39 different sports, including popular teams in India’s football and hockey leagues. The company has become a leader in sports science, providing data-driven insights that help coaches and athletes optimise their training routines, monitor recovery and even prevent injuries. Once players began to wear it for matches, coaches had another rich vein of data to mine from; now they could do with great precision exactly what they’ve always wanted to do: mimic the match environment during training. You Are Being Tracked The GPS vest now dictates every aspect of an athlete’s life across most team sports, but it was first wholeheartedly embraced by football clubs. Initially, players wore it only for training. By 2015, teams began to wear them under their jerseys during official matches. At the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, teams were allowed to transmit the data real-time during matches and analysts could share the player information with the coaches. Like F1 cars, footballers now cannot take a step on the pitch without telemetry shadowing them. Thanks to sports technology and the scientific vest, the landscape of sports science has dramatically changed. What was once a simple tool for measuring distance has evolved into a comprehensive system that tracks the minutiae of athletic performance. As teams continue to embrace sports wearable technology, the future of training looks increasingly data-driven, personalised and precise. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

SA vs IND: Sanju Samson Becomes The 1st Indian To Do This

Sanju Samson

While no one ever doubted his ability to score, concerns were only about him grabbing the opportunity. And boy, did Sanju Samson do it in style. Sanju Samson smashed his second T20I hundred in as many games, putting the South African attack to sword at Kingsmead with some extraordinary hitting. Samson Delivers It Back-To-Back Sanju Samson continued his scorching form as he completed two consecutive T20I centuries, taking India to a commanding position in the on-going series against South Africa at Kingsmead. The wicketkeeper-batter who had made an explosive 111 off 47 balls against Bangladesh in his previous outing, produced another masterclass in aggressive batting when he amassed a scintillating 100 off just 47 balls to lead India to set a daunting target. Samson Gives A Fiery Start To The Innings Samson’s scorching knock off 47 balls came as an onslaught from the very start. He raced to 35 runs from just 20 balls in the Powerplay, displaying excellent timing and power. Even after the field spread out, Samson’s intent remained clear as he launched into Nqaba Peter, smashing back-to-back sixes in the eighth over. The South African bowlers had little answer as Samson continued accelerating, cruising past the 50-run mark before setting his eye on three figures. Samson Breaks New Records Blistering hundred by Samson sets new records for Indian cricket. He became the first Indian to hit back-to-back T20I centuries and also registered the highest T20I score for India against South Africa. His performance included a devastating display of power hitting, smashing 10 sixes and 7 fours, at an astonishing strike rate of 214.00. Samson’s Shift From Middle-Order To Opening A transformation has been real for Samson after being seen largely as a middle-order batter. The 29-year-old batsman was patchy for some time and then was given the responsibility of opening the batting for India in T20 Internationals where he has produced rich dividends in matches played thus far. The adaptability with which he has performed in the top order has been worth gold, while even the fact that he managed consecutive centuries speaks to how crucial he is becoming for India’s T20I team. It is, in fact, one of his best plays that has sealed his place as one of the most thrilling T20 talents in India. He has raised himself to greater heights simply because of his fearlessness and now refuses to take on the bowlers around the globe; thus, making his remarkable strides in the shortest format of the game worth noticing by the cricketing world. Samson Sets Benchmark Other than being the first Indian to score successive T20I hundreds, Samson also set a new benchmark for Indian players against South Africa with his hundred standing as the highest ever hundred scored by an Indian in T20Is against the Proteas. He also registered the second-fastest T20I hundred against South Africa, thereby making it crystal clear that he is capable of delivering in high-pressure situations. What’s In Store For Samson Sanju Samson is the bright star India is looking for, for them to extend their dominance in T20I cricket. His splendid form is the glimpse of what he may become, however more importantly, a pronouncement of things to come in Indian T20 cricket, with Samson now firmly established as one of the leaders to watch out for in cricket. With the series on, all eyes would be glued to Sanju Samson as he looks to possibly continue that kind of form in this series and carry India further up the T20I leaderboard. A Matter Of Patience And Faith For The Indian Cricket Team

Indian Cricket Team

New Zealand had an upper hand over the Indian Cricket Team in the third test match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It turned out to be a 3-0 whitewash. Indians are not accustomed to such sort of loss at home so the outpour has been pretty strong too. However, as a die-hard fan, it’s very important to take a step back and evaluate the bigger picture. Does this loss indicate a downfall of intent, lack of leadership or poor coaching? Let’s dive into these pressing concerns with a balanced perspective. 1. Has The Indian Cricket Team Lost Its Intent? It is easy to get frustrated when the team we respect so much does not perform as per our expectations. However the difference between losing intent and losing to a good opponent is a world of difference. India did not lose because they lacked intent. New Zealand played super disciplined cricket that checked India’s aggression at bay. Moments of victory and defeat go hand in hand in sports. Every game, lost or won, presents an opportunity for introspection. The Indian Cricket Team would have come back to attack the next series with more precision and intent, as is their norm after suffering defeats. India is a side which draws momentum from losses and infuses that into their next match. This could just give them the fuel to rise against Australia in the much-hyped Border-Gavaskar series. So, instead of doubting their intentions, maybe we should believe in their resilience and wait for them to display it. 2. Should Rohit Sharma Be Sacked As India’s Test Captain? A big no.This is the most debated question, however Rohit Sharma’s contribution to the Indian Cricket Team is more than just a win-loss record. Rohit is someone who brings aggression and inspiration to his role and leads by example. He is a great player who does not care to place his wicket on the line for the team, something that is rarely seen in modern-day cricket. The leadership brand he delivers is of a willingness to counter-attack to set the tone for a bold innings. Every captain has ups and downs. What distinguishes them is that they can support their players through it all. The very fact that Rohit gives confidence to younger cricketers like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sarfaraz Khan, Dhruv Jurel and Aakash Deep all of whom have already gone on to become talent prospects under his mentorship he has proven to be players’ captain who trusts other teammates and creates a nourishing atmosphere that goes onto create long-term success although it also brings short term failure. Fans can now look past the last couple of losses and remember how many times Rohit’s leadership has instilled fearlessness into the Indian Cricket Team. And patience, they say, is a test of loyalty. I do not think we need to forget the devotion for the game in Rohit Sharma when we talk about him. 3. Is The Current Coaching Panel Not Up To The Mark? Judging the coaching panel after a few series would be rather premature. Coaching at national level often needs time to make an impact and success isn’t what you can expect instantly. It would be a different ball game indeed, however Gautam Gambhir has shown what potential he holds as a tactician in his stint with the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL), guiding them to the trophy in 2024. Fans must remember that each coaching team brings a different vision to the table and for Gambhir and his unit to establish theirs, they require time and trust. Success stories are seldom built overnight and a hasty judgment only undermines their efforts. Just as we have seen past coaches shape the team over seasons, Gambhir and his panel need a chance to build their legacy. With defeat, come accusations and despair. Each of the players, coaches and leaders has put in years of practice and sacrifice to bring themselves to that playing field. So let us rally behind them with understanding and encouragement rather than bash them. As in life, the sadness makes the wins that much sweeter in sport. The Indian Cricket Team’s journey was full of heart-stopping moments of glory and times of learning. Now, when they are at a crossroads, they need their supporters to stand with them and not bashing them. After all, faith is not tested in the moments of victory however in times of adversity. Let’s hold on to that faith and let’s watch the Indian Cricket Team bounce back. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye
