IND v ENG: T20I Series To Test Limits Of The Shortest Format

India and England prepare to clash in a five-match T20I series starting today, January 22, 2025. While India seems to have things under control, England finds itself struggling to show the full potential of its white-ball squad. India’s Smooth Sail In T20Is Since dominating Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and making short work of South Africa. While key players, such as Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, have bid adieu to the T20I circuit, Team India still looks to include new talent very effectively, as though nothing has ever been changed. A Bumpy Ride For England In T20Is England’s path has been a far more difficult one. Since their glorious 2022 T20 World Cup triumph, the Three Lions haven’t been able to ensure consistent performances at ICC events, and now, with Brendon McCullum in charge, they are looking to redefine the current team and realize their ‘untapped’ potential. Challenges In T20I For Coach McCullum It is Brendon McCullum’s first white-ball series as a coach for England, which presents an ideal situation to squeeze every drop from the talent-packed team containing players such as Jos Buttler, Ben Duckett and Liam Livingstone. Meanwhile, India’s T20I coach, Gautam Gambhir, believes his side’s recent test match defeats would have little to no effect on the confidence levels. Breaking Boundaries Between Forms This series comes at a time when the lines between T20I and ODI formats are increasingly blurred. With the Champions Trophy on the horizon, both teams will be keen to test their players in the shortest format, which could potentially open doors for future ODI spots. England’s Power-Packed T20I Squad England’s side is chock-full of firepower. Batting at No. 3, Jos Buttler has some explosive batting below him in the form of Liam Livingstone and dynamic Harry Brook. In attack, they have one of the most potent fast-bowling attacks in Jofra Archer and Mark Wood. Their squad, as deep as it is destructive, is a force to be reckoned with against India. India’s Selection Dilemmas India, on the other hand, has a lot of decisions to take, especially with their spinners and batting depth. The bowling unit looks quite solid with the seam attack with Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, and Mohammed Shami. The choice of spinners is still unsure with Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and the likes of Ravi Bishnoi in the selection mix. Pitch Conditions The Eden Garden pitch is looking like a heaven for batsmen with true bounce along with small boundaries and loads of dew which shall ensure high scoring games. According to the coaches of both the teams, they acknowledged that the real challenge lies here in getting their players to adapt to these conditions. Most probably dew might play its tricks, especially while playing the second innings. Expectations From The First IND v ENG T20I The first T20I is definitely going to be an exciting start of what is waiting to be a thrilling series. As both teams try to prove their dominance in T20I format, the fans are in for a big, high-octane contest full of big hits and nail-biting finishes. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye
BCCI Restricts Printing Pakistan On Team India Jersey For Champions Trophy 2025

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has given a big no to print Pakistan’s name on Team India’s jerseys for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Team India To Play Champions Trophy 2025 In Dubai Pakistan and Dubai are going to co-host the event while India’s matches will be held in Dubai. The reason was that, although the match was to be played in Pakistan, Team India wouldn’t be donning the tag on their jersey, a tradition according to which all the teams used to wear the tag of the host country on the jersey. BCCI’s Stand Against Political Issues The decision followed long term political issues between India and Pakistan. Earlier, BCCI had announced that they would not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy due to security reasons. According to a hybrid model adopted by the ICC, all of India’s matches would be played in Dubai, and other teams in Pakistan. Much controversy has been seen because the BCCI refused to print Pakistan’s name on Team India jerseys when one of the Pakistan Cricket Board officials described the BCCI as mixing politics with cricket. BCCI And PCB Disputes The PCB and BCCI have been in strained relations for years as India and Pakistan rarely get a chance to play cricketing matches due to the political climate. They had confronted only against each other in the ICC matches or Asia Cup, but bilateral cricket match series were long-overdue. Before this controversy arising out of an incident where India captain Rohit Sharma skipped the inauguration ceremony has excited fresh news regarding this championship; it is highly expected to take off on 19 February. As far as function date goes, an opening ceremony seems to be tentatively scheduled either for February 16 or 17, 2025. India At Champions Trophy 2025 India will kickstart their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign by playing against Bangladesh on February 20, 2025. The India-Pakistan showpiece contest of the ICC Champions Trophy will take place on February 23, 2025. Until date, the BCCI hasn’t made an official statement about jersey designing and other issues of playing few key players during this ceremony when both the sides were in friction. Will Rohit Sharma Attend The Opening Ceremony In Pakistan? The opening ceremony of the ICC Champions Trophy is set to be held in Pakistan. The opening ceremony of an ICC event usually features all the Captains representing their countries. However, as per reports, Rohit Sharma won’t be traveling to Pakistan for the opening ceremony. IND v ENG: Bazball Has Arrived

Jos Buttler and his men from England have arrived to take on the Indian Cricket Team for an exciting white ball series comprising five T20Is and three ODIs starting January 22, 2025 at the Eden gardens, Kolkata. The audiences are anticipating England to play Bazball. However, let’s understand what Bazball really is. What Does “Bazball” In Cricket Mean? Bazball is the aggressive game of cricket, more so in test match cricket. In cricketing terms, this means playing the fearless attacking game of cricket making a flurry of quick runs scored by taking risks with a positive approach. This was coined after former New Zealand cricketer Brendon McCullum, infamously known as “Baz” while he came up with that style of game during his time as coach for the England men’s test team. Is Bazball Only Limited To Test Match Cricket? Not really. Bazball, in simple terms, means an aggressive style of playing cricket. Be it test matches, ODI’s or even T20’s. Delivering with aggression with an aim to score quickly in the shortest time possible can be described as Bazball. We have seen England playing Bazball not only in test match cricket, but also in ODI’s and T20’s as well. What Is The History Of Bazball In The Back? Bazball was an invention of that time when Brendon McCullum took the mantle of the head coach of the England men’s cricket team in 2022. From then to date, it is when the bold, aggressive nature of Brendon McCullum began to emerge before everyone’s eyes since the players of England started imbibing it in themselves and giving a completely different turn to the game. The term does not only express a style but actually encompasses a mindset – the essence is to take bold decisions and carry strategic attacking movements. Why Is Brendon McCullum Called As The ‘Architect Of Bazball’? Brendon McCullum is aggressive, in his cricketing leadership, cricketer-captain-turned-coach of New Zealand with aggressive batting style. He as a coach of the England test cricket team brought the attitude towards playing cricket with aggression in the simplest and yet most positive way one could enjoy oneself in while playing. The philosophy scribbled at the back reads: negativity avoided while preserving a win attitude, under the command of Ben Stokes. How Has Bazball Helped The Success Of The England Cricket Team? Bazball has transformed the way England plays cricket entirely. It is a much more exciting and dynamic game. The aggressive style brings fresh energy to the team and that is beginning to reflect in performances and international attention. Bazball is being moulded under the philosophy of Brendon McCullum and under the leadership of Ben Stokes. However, England’s limited overs skipper, Jos Buttler also believes to attack right from the word-go. That exciting brand of cricket will be seen when England and India clash in a white ball series in January 2025. Is Bazball a thing that really fascinates you or do you feel that such aggressive intent towards the game is harmful in the long run? The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye
BCCI Wants The Indian Cricket Team To Travel Together

The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) has sent a detailed ten-point policy document to the state associations that are scheduled to host India’s upcoming matches against England. The series will start off with the first T20I at the Eden Gardens on January 22, 2025 and will have five T20Is followed by three ODIs. BCCI Establishes Guidelines For Team Travel and Training The Cricket Association of Bengal, which is hosting the first T20I between India and England at the Eden Gardens, said on Sunday it had made necessary arrangements for the Indian team with regard to new BCCI policy. This fact was highlighted when the Indian Cricket Team began training at the venue on the first day. BCCI Asks The Team To Travel Together One of the main points in the policy document mandates that the whole team travel together to training and matches on a team bus. This decision was taken after a review meeting in which BCCI officials, including head coach Gautam Gambhir, ODI and Test Captain Rohit Sharma, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, discussed India’s recent performances, especially in test match cricket. BCCI Tightens Team Discipline With New Travel Rule According to the new rules set by BCCI, a player would require permission from either the head coach or head selector if he wanted to leave the team and travel alone for training or matches. The policy also states that all players should stay at the ground until the end of the entire training session or game before leaving. This rule is meant to instill a strong work ethic and commitment in the team. BCCI Declares Mandatory Domestic Cricket Participation Another important aspect of the policy was that players need to play for their domestic teams. Rohit Sharma had, earlier, tackled this issue with a press conference in Mumbai at the time the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad was declared. Ajit Agarkar also clarified the fact that all these new rules were not being imposed as any form of punitive measure but only as necessary requirements for all of them to comply with when they wore the national badge. Will the new guidelines set by BCCI add more discipline to the Indian Cricket Team or will it add more unwanted restrictions? The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

Shreyas Iyer Is The X-Factor India Needs At Champions Trophy

As the selection talks begin for the Indian Cricket Team for the ICC Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer is one name that every sensible cricket follower would expect to be featured in the Indian Cricket Team. What Can Shreyas Iyer Do? As a classy stroke player, Shreyas Iyer can stabilize innings and hold his ground at pressure games. He would be the potential missing X-factor that Team India may require for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which is to commence on 19th February. Shreyas Iyer’s potential as a match-winner during middle-order crises, especially at big-ticket events, makes him an asset India cannot miss. Why Will Shreyas Iyer Help India’s Middle Order? Shreyas Iyer is that stability which the Indian Cricket Team will need in the middle order. Soaking the pressure and delivering the goods while being in the middle order is an important feature of any ICC competition. Iyer can accelerate to a certain level if a situation gets really tough to handle and is a good finisher too. This quick adaptation of Shreyas Iyer under pressure will really be a big aspect for the Indian Cricket Team in the Champions Trophy. Shreyas Iyer Comes Back From A Rough Patch Coming into this series, Shreyas Iyer hadn’t been great since his last game for India, during India’s Tour Of Sri Lanka in August 2024. Iyer had played only three ODIs and had aggregated only 38 runs, averaging a 12.66, which indeed is low for a cricketer of that caliber. With the announcement of the Indian Cricket Team squad for the England limited-overs series and the Champions Trophy likely to come out in the coming days, Shreyas Iyer would also want to ensure himself a place in the team. Shreyas Iyer: From Struggles To Resurrection He was very bold after his no-shows for the previous matches against Sri Lanka. Shreyas Iyer batted extremely well in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, however, was not there in the list of BCCI central contracts; he was not there for the domestic tournaments. However, return to form is surely something that could only be described in superlative terms. Shreyas Iyer’s Impressive Records Shreyas Iyer has scored 4,300 runs with an average of 39.77 in international cricket, with 14 tests, 62 ODIs and 51 T20Is, with a strike rate of 96.57 and six hundreds. Shreyas Iyer showed maturity and consistency in big games in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, scoring 530 runs in 11 innings with an average of 66.25 and a strike rate of 113.24. This shows how vital an asset, Shreyas Iyer is going to be for the Indian Cricket Team in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Shreyas Iyer’s Outstanding 2024-25 Domestic Season Shreyas Iyer has been playing exceptional cricket in the domestic season of 2024-25 for Mumbai. In just four matches of Ranji Trophy, Iyer had scored 452 runs with an average of 90.40 and strike rate of 88.80. His individual highest score had been 233 runs. Shreyas Iyer’s brilliant performances were also noticed in shorter formats where he gave a spectacular performance in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy where he scored 345 runs in nine matches of the tournament while maintaining an average of 49.28 with strikes at 188.52. He steered Mumbai to victory in the 2024 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy by taking the same. Shreyas Iyer’s Contributions In The Vijay Hazare Trophy Shreyas Iyer has been batting well in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy. In five matches for Mumbai, he scored 325 runs. Against Puducherry, his unbeaten 137 saved his team from a precarious 82 for five. Iyer again came out with a match-winning performance under pressure. His explosive 114 off just 55 balls against Karnataka also showcased his striking range. Within 50 balls, Shreyas Iyer had completed his century. Shreyas Iyer’s Adaptability Shreyas Iyer close game experience together with his talent to make himself in any kind of changing situation means he’s that player who looks more dominating, especially for match-winning situations in high pressure games. He does boast excellent records both at home and away, on several instances, also showing he is the kind of chap who would genuinely come up at the right time when it matters. Missing a player like Shreyas Iyer from the ICC Champions Trophy would mean missing one out on key matches when it really counts. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye
Should Team India Add More Pacers Or More Spinners Post BGT Loss?

The Indian Cricket Team struggled during their recent tour of Australia. With the bowling unit completely dependent on Jasprit Bumrah, the question arises whether team India should go back playing four specialist spinners or should they continue with four specialist pacers in their bowling unit? Team India’s Preference For Pace For sometime now, Indians have had recourse to a substantial group of frontline pacers particularly during overseas tours where there were favorable conditions. Historically, it has been an obsession under Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli that there needs to be at least four specialist pacers in the playing XI, an approach which most of the times was found successful. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, however, brought forth the debate on whether it is valid in the present times or time to think in a different balance of pace and spin. Recent BGT Upset For Team India The 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy was a demonstration of the dangers of straying from this winning formula. India’s bowling attack was stretched to its limits with Jasprit Bumrah ruled out through injury and India ended up with a disappointing series result of 1-3. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna bowled long hours but to no avail against an Australian batting lineup that was far too strong. This put into the fore how important it is to have a strong core of pace bowling when cricketing is done under seam and swing-friendly conditions. Team India’s Bowling Strategy Under head coach Gautam Gambhir, India’s bowling strategy was slightly changed during the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Instead of relying on four fast bowlers as specialists, India relied on a core of three specialist pacers accompanied by many all-rounders. This change, though flexible in batting order, went wrong for India in the bowling department. All-rounders like Nitish Kumar Reddy were used and played a not so vital role with the ball and such a move was questionable considering the conditions where pace would play a crucial role. Statistics Highlight Team India’s Bowling Needs Statistical analysis indicated that team India’s third and fourth seamers did well in the away conditions during the last several years, having an average of 27.18 and the main strike bowlers showed an even better average of 24.94. In sharp contrast, while playing the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the very same third and fourth seamers combined to post a worrying 40.18. Such statistics may indicate going back to more traditional configuration of valuing more proven effectiveness over flexibility. Team India’s Condition-Based Decisions The constant seesaw between the pace and the spin also led to a question about the playing conditions. Traditionally, Australian pitches have been known to favor fast bowling, with their speed and bounce. However, team India chose two spinners in its playing XI. It was a rare decision and one that did not go right for them at all. The spinners could bowl only 16 percent of the overs and did little in taking wickets. In contrast, Australia used their fast bowlers very effectively by placing a well-balanced lineup that constantly threatened the Indian batsmen throughout the series. Team India’s Future Bowling Strategy With these recent performances, there is sufficient evidence to justify a return to a pace-heavy strategy for team India’s future excursions, especially on fast, bouncy tracks abroad. Four specialist pacers would ensure sharper penetration with rest for the primary strike bowlers coming into each contest in fresh conditions. These words of Gambhir from previous remarks—words where he does actually emphasize that to win a test match, the team has to take 20 wickets —reinforces that a potent pace attack simply cannot be in test match cricket. The Balanced Philosophy By Team India Bowling Team India should strike the right balance of both pace and spin and depending on conditions and opposition. However, it should, in a way, depend on away conditions more on the pacers side. The strategy would be restored back to using more specialist pacers as future planning is on by the selection committee and management team. Do you think that team India will go back playing with four specialist spinners in their upcoming test match series or will they go with four specialist pace bowlers in their lineup? Is Rohit Sharma Stepping Down From Captaincy Really The Solution?

The defeat at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was a bitter pill to swallow for Indian cricket fans. Australia’s win by 184 runs was something that the Indians would rather forget and while Pat Cummins was rightly the Player of the Match, the focus was on the Indian captain, Rohit Sharma and his leadership. It hurts to see our leader battle through a lean patch and more heart-wrenching is the sound of voices clamoring for his retirement. Is this how we must treat a man who has given Indian cricket so much? Rohit Sharma Deserves Our Support Of course, Rohit Sharma’s recent numbers are not upto the mark. At an average of 6.2 runs in five innings in the present series, he managed just 31 runs. Since September he has had 164 runs in 15 innings-a far cry from the powerful hitter we know and love to watch. However, before judging Rohit, let us take one step back and think on this issue. Rohit Sharma is also a human and like any great cricketer there have been moments in his career as well, where he did struggle. Those overs without a single run scored during those crucial minutes at the crease are nothing but moments. It would be tragic to judge a man who has carried the Indian batting lineup for more than a decade on the basis of a few difficult weeks. Rohit Sharma’s Legacy Of Glory Let’s not forget the heroics Rohit Sharma has delivered over the years. Double hundred in test match cricket against South Africa, game saving knocks over the years against teams like England, New Zealand and some truly epic leadership performances when India wins. This man has provided the base for Indian Cricket Team’s success not merely with the bat but also under his tranquil leadership. His current struggles at the bat do not and should not, overshadow everything he has achieved. Rohit is a player of rare elegance, a batsman whose presence at the crease inspires the crowd to play fearless cricket. His ability to rise to the occasion, when it matters most, is one of the reasons we place our trust in him as captain. And now, in his time of need, it is our turn to show the same trust and patience. A Leader Beyond The Runs The value of a captain far outweighs the runs he scores. It’s about leadership, about motivating your team when the chips are down, about staying composed when the pressure is suffocating. Rohit Sharma embodies all these qualities. His leadership has sent India to the summit of test cricket, his judgment calls many times have proven right and his ability to stay afloat in extremely testing times is what makes him the backbone of this side. A captain’s worth is not solely determined by his personal performance. It is defined by his ability to inspire his team, to lead them with courage and conviction. In these trying times, when his bat has remained silent, Rohit Sharma has stood tall as a leader India needs. His composure, his confidence and his belief in his team have not wavered at all. It is in such moments that a true leader shines-not in the easy victories but in the tough times when the team looks up to him for guidance. Rohit Sharma Needs Support, Not Criticism As fans, as supporters of Indian cricket, we have a responsibility to lift our captain when he is down. Rohit Sharma has given us moments of sheer joy, moments we will never forget. To ask him to retire based on a rough patch is to disregard everything he has contributed to the game and to the team. No player should be judged by their worst moments and no captain should be deserted by the very fans who cheered for him when he did well. True loyalty will be shown in standing up for a man when he most needs us to stand. Rohit has given us everything – his passion, his dedication, his heart. He has shown up for us when we needed him and now it’s time we show up for him. Let’s not forget that a true champion always finds a way back. The best players rise from their struggles and Rohit Sharma is no exception. Rohit Sharma Is A Hero Who Deserves Our Faith For us, Rohit Sharma is more than just a cricketer. He is the epitome of leadership and consistency. His journey from Mumbai to Melbourne has been to what it means to play for the love of the game, for the pride of the country and for the millions who look up to him. His current form does not define him. It is just a chapter in an illustrious career. We also have to note that champions are not made from victories but from how they rise above adversity. We should stand by our captain and give him all the support he needs and remind him that he is still our leader. Let’s not rush to replace a man who has given us everything. Let’s rally behind him and show the world that we believe in Rohit Sharma. The road to redemption might be long. However, if there is one player capable of coming through, it’s Rohit Sharma. The best is yet to come and we, as his loyal supporters, will be there every step of the way. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye
AUS v IND: How Can India Still Qualify For The WTC 2025 Final?

India’s chances of qualifying for the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final suffered a huge setback after being defeated by 184 runs against Australia in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With Australia now holding an unassailable 2-1 lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), India’s chances of qualifying for the WTC 2025 final now depend on a series of scenarios. India is yet not completely out of the race at all and their hopes of qualification still rest on how they perform in the remaining matches and some unlikely results in other series. India’s Short-Term Task For WTC 2025 Qualification First, India needs to secure the fifth and final test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. The match is slated to start on January 3, 2025, at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Winning in Sydney will bring the series to a 2-2 level and thereby keep alive their hopes for qualifying for the WTC 2025 final. The qualification path, however, lies beyond their control. India’s fate will also be determined by how Sri Lanka does in their two-match test series against Australia, which begins on January 29, 2025, in Galle. Will Sri Lanka A Role In India’s WTC 2025 Qualification? India will qualify for the WTC 2025 final only if they beat Australia in Sydney and then pray for Sri Lanka to whitewash Australia in their series. If Sri Lanka wins 2-0 over Australia, India can conclude the WTC 2025 cycle with a percentage of 55.26% and thereby surpass Australia’s projected 51.75% and Sri Lanka’s expected 53.85%. This will ensure India qualify for the final, scheduled to be held at Lord’s. However, if India loses or draws the Sydney test, their chances of qualifying for the WTC 2025 final will be effectively over, irrespective of the result in the Sri Lanka-Australia series. What Present WTC 2025 Standings Mean For India? Presently, India is at the third position in the WTC 2025 standings with a percentage of 52.78%. Since it qualified into the final after winning a contest against Pakistan, Australia finds a share percentage of 51.75%, while Sri Lanka placed fourth with a share of 53.85%. If India loses in Sydney, Sri Lanka’s 2-0 win over Australia would not help India into the final, since that would not enhance India’s percentage enough to get it above both Australia and Sri Lanka. What India Probably Could Do At Sydney? For India, the way to the WTC 2025 final is well-laid but not easy. They need to start by performing well in Sydney, where they can’t afford to drop any more matches. Top-order issues have been an issue for the team in the Boxing Day Test and the big names such as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli have not performed upto the mark, so they’ll be looking to do the job in the final test at Sydney. Some other players who had shown lot of grit and resilience in that last game would play a major role if India have to win over Sydney. Can India Make It To The WTC 2025 Final? India can still reach the WTC 2025 final, however, that will only happen if they win in Sydney and Sri Lanka beats Australia 2-0. Their fate will be determined by how both teams perform in the next few weeks. For now, India needs to focus on winning the fifth and the final test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Sydney and hoping that other results will fall in their favor, keeping their dreams of qualifying for the WTC 2025 final alive.
