T20 World Cup: Why the USA win over Pakistan is bad for the ICC!

US Cricket

The USA cricket is over the moon right now and rightfully so! On Thursday, the 2024 T20 World Cup debutants stunned the 2009 edition champions, Pakistan in Texas. The match went into the Super Over, but the USA responded well under pressure – both with the bat and the ball, and bagged two crucial points. The win now takes Monank Patel and company to the top of the table. Points Table – Group A – ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Position Team Matches W/L Points 1 USA 02 2/0 4 2 India 01 1/0 2 3 Pakistan 01 0/1 0 4 Canada 01 0/1 0 5 Ireland 01 0/1 0 Also Read: USA Cricket Team: Pro Athletes or Daily Wage Workers? Who would have envisioned this situation at the start of the T20 World Cup? USA sits at the top spot with two wins from two matches, followed by India, with one win and two points. Pakistan, Canada, and Ireland are yet to open their account, with three matches each pending at their disposal. What if Pakistan makes an early exit? USA’s win over Pakistan is celebrated worldwide, but with the latter now on the brink, the ICC might feel the pressure, revenue-wise. An early Pakistan exit from the tournament might have repercussions for the game’s governing body. Such is the unpredictability of the Pakistan cricket team, that it has now put the ICC into jeopardy, with their shameful loss to the USA. a) Market Impact Pakistan is one of the most followed teams in world cricket and brings massive viewership and sponsorship. If Pakistan makes an early exit from the T20 World Cup, this could lead to a decrease in interest and revenue. b) Broadcast ratings Matches featuring Pakistan are a goldmine for broadcasters and attract high TV ratings. An early exit from the tournament could affect advertising revenue and broadcast deals for the ICC. c) Sponsorship and Advertising Leading brands invest heavily in top teams with large fan bases, and Pakistan happens to be one of them. A poor showing from Pakistan and an early exit could sway the sponsors and the advertisers away, thus impacting the ICC’s future financial aspects. d) Merchandise Sales Pakistan’s poor showing in the World Cup could result in a decline in the sales of team-related products. They have one of the biggest fan followings around the world, and their merchandise sales come in the top 3, behind India and Australia. e) Competitive Balance For the moment, it looks like the USA is a strong contender to make it to the Super 8s. However, there is a huge chance of them succumbing to big-match pressure in the knockouts. A side like Pakistan would add more competitive balance to the T20 World Cup. f) Global appeal A strong Pakistan team is so critical for the ICC to fulfill its aim of globalizing cricket. Pakistan’s strong performance is vital for sustaining global engagement. Conclusion – Can India save the ICC? To conclude, while the USA’s win is a significant achievement for them, it poses several challenges for the ICC in terms of viewership, sponsorship, and maintaining the tournament’s competitive allure. The USA’s win over Pakistan may lead to financial losses for the ICC, affecting revenue, broadcast ratings, sponsorship, merchandise sales, and global interest in the tournament. Will the India vs Pakistan match on June 09th be a knockout one for Babar Azam and company? If yes, then the ICC should be ready to bear losses in millions, this time thanks to the USA. Former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh has already fired a warning. A lot more is now riding on India’s shoulders, and the stakes have risen way above anyone’s expectations. Is Pakistan’s stay at the 2024 T20 World Cup all but over?

India vs Pakistan: How will the Nassau County Stadium Pitch Behave on June 9th?

Rohit Sharma & Babar Azam

“I don’t know what to expect from the pitch, to be honest,” Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. India steamrolled Ireland by 8 wickets, but for the Blues, there were more questions than were left unanswered in the middle. The biggest one was the up-and-down nature of the pitch. Up next is an India vs Pakistan encounter at the same venue. Rohit wasn’t the only one, who was left confused by the way the pitch behaved throughout the game. Mind you, the Hitman was the only batter to cross a half-century in the entire match. Also Read: India vs Pakistan – How to get to the Nassau County Stadium? Maybe Rohit, echoed the sentiment of every Indian cricket fan, and to an extent Pakistan cricket fan too. An India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup match is arguably the biggest game of the entire tournament. The pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York has been the talking point for the pundits, players and media, for all the wrong reasons. The last two competitive T20Is played at the venue have yielded a mere 350 runs, at the expense of 26 wickets. No side, while batting first has managed to breach the 100-run-mark so far. Nassau County Pitch in Numbers Total Matches Highest Team Total Highest Individual Score (Batter) Best Bowling Figure Pacers Spinners 02 97/2 (India vs Ireland) 52* Rohit Sharma vs Ireland 04/07 Anrich Nortje vs Sri Lanka 18 wickets 05 wickets The bowlers, especially pacers with 18 wickets from two matches are not complaining one bit. South Africa’s Anrich Nortje and India’s Jasprit Bumrah have emerged as the player of the match for their respective sides. So, where do these numbers stand with context to the high-profile India vs Pakistan billing? India vs Pakistan: Expect Batters to struggle, bowlers to shine The way things have panned out so far, and with the conditions likely to stay overcast, expect the India vs Pakistan contest to be a low-scoring one. Both the teams have excellent fast bowlers in their lineup – Jasprit Bumrah, Shaheen Afridi, Md. Siraj, and Haris Rauf to name a few. Unless the batters play out of their skins, either team batting first will struggle to put a score over 135 or more. The wicket is a challenging one, with some deliveries staying very low, while others jump off the wicket, making life troublesome for the batters. A lot of this has to do with the drop-in pitch used at the Nassau County Cricket Stadium. The drop-in pitch made in Australia, was flown all over to New York City, right before the start of the tournament. Experts have already started criticizing the drop-in pitches, which are not conducive for T20 cricket, especially during the World Cups. Voice of Indian cricket Harsha Bhogle cannot imagine a big name of India vs Pakistan magnitude taking place on drop-in pitches like the one at Nassau County Stadium. India vs Pakistan Match Tickets: Cricket Fans’ In For a Shocker? Earlier, it was reported that the cost of one ticket for India vs Pakistan is costing the fans close to Rs 8.4 Lakh or even more. In case you are an overseas traveller, then one must include the travel cost, and other expenses too. So, to watch the contest on June 9th, fans are already spending a fortune. What looks like a low-scoring match already is spending close to Rs 9 Lakh just for a ticket, justifiable by any stretch of the imagination? The ICC’s major blunder is going to cost India and Pakistan cricket fans millions of dollars, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Don’t be surprised, if the much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan, scheduled on June 9th, ends up being a disappointment. The ICC has made all the preparations to ensure that this marquee match, turns out to be a one-sided affair. Team India Squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube Pakistan Squad: Babar Azam (c), Saim Ayub, Mohammad Rizwan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Azam Khan (wk), Usman Khan, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Amir, Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf, Abrar Ahmed.

Nassau County Stadium Pitch: ICC in Panic Mode as India Faces Pakistan?

ICC addresses pitch concerns at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium ahead of India vs Pakistan clash in ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a statement addressing concerns over the drop-in pitch at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. The pitches at this venue have been under scrutiny for their inconsistent performance, with the ICC acknowledging that the surfaces “have not played consistently.” Efforts are ongoing to improve the conditions for future matches at the stadium, including the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan fixture in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The Issue with Drop-In Pitches at NassauThe drop-in pitches at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have produced low-scoring games, characterized by unpredictable bounce and lack of consistency. So far, two ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches have been played on these pitches, both resulting in significantly low scores. In the first game, Sri Lanka was bowled out for a mere 77 runs, and in a subsequent match, Ireland managed only 96 runs before being dismissed. New Developments with Unused PitchesPitch No. 2 and Pitch No. 3 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have not yet been used for any games. Observations indicate that grass has been shaved off one of these surfaces, potentially signaling a different playing condition compared to the previously used pitches. These pitches could be crucial for the upcoming matches, including the much-anticipated India vs. Pakistan game scheduled for June 9. Potential Impact on India vs Pakistan MatchThe upcoming India vs Pakistan clash is one of the most anticipated matches of the tournament, drawing massive attention from fans worldwide. The low-scoring nature of the games at Nassau raises several concerns and potential impacts for this high-stakes encounter: 1. Playing Conditions and StrategyBoth India and Pakistan will need to adjust their strategies to cope with the unpredictable nature of the pitch. Batting might be challenging, requiring batters to focus on technique and patience rather than aggressive stroke play. Bowlers, especially those who can exploit variations in bounce, could have a significant advantage. This might lead to a more conservative approach from batsmen, resulting in a lower-scoring game. 2. Player Performance and AdaptationKey players from both sides will be tested in adapting to the pitch conditions. Star batters like Virat Kohli for India and Babar Azam for Pakistan will need to demonstrate their versatility and ability to perform under challenging conditions, given that both of them haven’t had a decent outing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 yet.  Bowlers such as Jasprit Bumrah for India and Shaheen Afridi for Pakistan may play pivotal roles, with their ability to capitalize on the pitch’s irregularities and the uneven bounce, if any, that day being crucial to their teams’ success. 3. Fan Expectations and Entertainment ValueLow-scoring games can sometimes lead to thrilling finishes, but they can also be less entertaining for fans expecting high-scoring fireworks typical of T20 cricket. The ICC will need to manage fan expectations and ensure the quality of the spectacle remains high despite the challenging pitch conditions. No one pays a lump sum just to watch their teams either build up or chase low scores.  4. Impact on ICC and the T20 World CupThe ICC’s reputation is at stake, as consistent criticism of pitch quality can overshadow the tournament. Ensuring fair and competitive matches is essential for maintaining the integrity and excitement of the World Cup. The ICC’s efforts to address the pitch issues will be closely monitored. Any significant improvements in the pitch conditions before the India vs. Pakistan match could restore confidence among teams and fans. ICC’s Response and Future ProspectsThe ICC has assured that they are actively working to resolve the issues with the pitches at Nassau. Solutions to enhance the playing surface’s consistency are being explored to ensure better conditions for the remaining matches. The outcome of these efforts will be critical not only for the India vs. Pakistan game but for the overall success of the T20 World Cup at this venue. The low-scoring games at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium have highlighted the challenges of maintaining consistent pitch quality. The upcoming India vs. Pakistan clash will test the adaptability and resilience of both teams. The ICC’s swift and effective response to these pitch concerns will be vital in preserving the tournament’s competitive spirit and entertainment value. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

Pak vs USA: Gary Kirsten – Once Dhoni’s Delight, Now Babar’s Rolling Stone

Gary Kirsten

Don’t be surprised if Gary Kirsten’s tenure as Pakistan’s head coach ends after the 2024 T20 World Cup. The start hasn’t gone according to plan. On Thursday, the USA stunned Pakistan by 5 runs in a thrilling Super Over contest in Dallas, Texas. Kirsten is fondly remembered by Indians for guiding MS Dhoni and Blue Brigade to a 2011 World Cup triumph. Now, with Pakistan as Babar Azam‘s rolling stone, the South African has come under harsh criticism. Also Read: USA’s win over Pakistan, cost ICC millions Irfan Pathan Criticises Gary Kirsten & Babar Azam Post the heartbreaking loss, both the team and the Pakistan Cricket Board are facing severe backlash back home. Gary Kirsten has also come in the firing line. Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has openly criticised Pakistan’s head coach role, for the team’s shameful loss to the USA. “He will know that there is a lot of difference between handling Indian cricket and Pakistan cricket,” Irfan said, during commentary with Star Sports. Irfan was also critical of Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who he felt batted miserably, and then captained poorly when the pressure was on. He slammed his choice of bowler for the Super Over and also pointed out the poor role played by head coach Gary Kirsten. After the loss to the USA, Pakistan needs to beat India on June 9th. The match will be played at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. A loss to India, and Pakistan can nearly bid their T20 World Cup campaign goodbye. As far as Gary Kirsten is concerned, he was brought on as Pakistan’s head coach with a lot of hope. However, there’s nothing much he can do, if his players put up a paltry show, like the one against the USA in Texas. Kirsten is still loved and adored by Indian cricketers and fans. However, come June 9th, he will be in the opposition corner. Team India led by Rohit Sharma knows how to deal with the opposition, especially when the color is green, and the occasion is a World Cup game. Also Read: India vs Pakistan – H2H stats in ICC events

2024 T20 World Cup: USA Stuns Pakistan, Babar Azam & Co. on Survival Mode vs India?

Elimination clouds over Pakistan after a stunning loss to USA; must defeat India to stay in ICC Men's T20 World Cup contention.

Pakistan, once again failed to live up to the expectations at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 as they were stunned by the USA in a Group-A encounter. Saurabh Netravalkar, an Indian with a Green Card made sure Pakistan was kept at bay in the super over.  Chasing 19 in the super over, Pakistan only scored 13 runs, losing the game by 5 runs. The win over Pakistan has meant USA are now unbeaten in their opening two matches. Pakistan now are on a survival-mode as they would be playing for their pride as they next take on their arch rivals, India. The question is will Pakistan be able to manage their Super 8 qualification or will India send them back to their huts? India vs Pakistan – A Do-Or-Die Game For PakistanBabar Azam’s team has a tough job ahead to move up the points table and reach the knockouts. They are currently third in Group A, while the USA and India have not lost any matches yet. A win against India is crucial for Pakistan to stay in contention for the Super-8 stage. If they lose to their neighbors, Pakistan might increase the risk of being knocked out of the tournament. Pakistan still has a chance to qualify for the Super 8s. The best outcome would be a win against their rivals, India. If Pakistan loses to India, they will need the USA to lose their remaining two matches against Ireland and India, and Pakistan will have to win both of their last two matches after playing India. You may also like: How can Pakistan qualify for Super 8s?Pakistan needs at least six points from their four group stage matches. They have already lost one match to the USA, making the path ahead difficult for the team. Under coach Gary Kirsten, the team must win all their remaining three matches in the group stage. Another loss would mean Pakistan has to depend on the results of other Group A matches. As Pakistan tries to qualify for the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, the situation is clear. With six points needed and only three matches left, Pakistan must win all three to secure their place in the next stage. The team faces a tough challenge but is determined to perform their best in these crucial matches. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

Rohit Sharma Injury: Will Hitman be fit for the Match Against Pakistan?

Courtesy: BCCI

Team India‘s 8-wicket win against Ireland on Wednesday in New York, could prove costly. Captain Rohit Sharma suffered an elbow injury, that forced him to retire hurt due to precautionary reasons. Rohit was batting fluently, having scored an unbeaten 52 runs off just 37 balls, until Ireland pacer Josh Little’s back-of-the-length delivery in the 9th over hit his upper arm. With a bit of discomfort, Rohit had to walk back to the pavilion, leaving the fans concerned. Soon Rohit’s fitness became a talking point on social media as the big match against Pakistan isn’t too far away. Will Rohit Sharma play against Pakistan? The good news though is that Rohit Sharma’s injury is not a serious one. The Indian Captain opened up on his fitness concerns in the post-match chit-chat in just one line. “Yeah, just a little sore (the arm),” said Rohit Sharma Not just Rohit, but wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant too got a hit on his elbow in the 11th over, again bowled by Josh Little. Before getting retired hurt, the Hitman’s knock was good enough to put India on the path to chasing a paltry 97 runs to win at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium. Also Read: India vs Pakistan – Rivalry over the years Rishabh Pant was there till the end, finishing the match for Team India in the 13th over with an audacious reverse-sweep lap for a six. Coming back to Rohit Sharma, the Indian fans need not get worried. The Hitman will lead the charge against the arch-rivals, come June 09th. However, the Hitman wasn’t too sure what to expect from the wicket for the Pakistan clash. “I don’t know what to expect from the pitch to be honest. We will prepare as if the conditions are going to be like this (for the Pakistan game). This is going to be a kind of game where all XI of us will need to contribute. It was scratchy, but good to spend some time in the middle and understand what kind of shots to play there,” Rohit said after the match India takes on Pakistan at the same venue on Sunday. Given the overcast conditions and the pitch favoring the bowlers, it seems like a hard day at the office for batters. In this case, Rohit Sharma’s role becomes even more important. T20 World Cup: Can the USA Stun Pakistan? 3 Reasons Why Babar Azam & Co. May Succumb to the Hosts

The USA, in strong form and with local support, may challenge Pakistan's struggling team in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Pakistan will face the USA in a Group A match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on Thursday, in Dallas. This will mark the start of Pakistan’s campaign in the ninth edition of the tournament, amid concerns about their form and team combination. In contrast, the USA enters the match with high confidence, having convincingly defeated Canada in the tournament’s opening game on June 2 at the same venue. Pakistan need to be wary of the USA side, largely because they are slow starters themselves, and second, the men-in-green has a history of succumbing to lower ranked teams at the ICC events. Talking only about the ICC events, Pakistan lost in 1999 to Bangladesh. Also who could forget their loss at the 2007 T20 World Cup to Namibia. Recently, Pakistan also lost to Afghanistan at the 2023 ICC Men’s ODI World Cup in India. They are poor starters, and Pakistan knows it better than anyone else. This makes the USA a strong contender, though Pakistan still go in as favourites. Let’s take a look at some reasons, as to why the USA can upset Pakistan. 1. Out of form Pakistan batting line-up Pakistan is entering the T20 World Cup after a rough patch. They already lost 2-0  against England in a four-match series in May and also lost the first match against Ireland before winning the series 2-1. Their main worry is their batting, which has been struggling. If their batting problems continue in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, it will be hard for them to make it to the top 4. Pakistan’s top order has been struggling, with Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failing to provide strong starts. The middle order is also unclear, leaving players unsure about their roles and positions to bat. Apart from Fakhar Zaman and Iftikhar Ahmed, the rest of the batting lineup plays at a strike rate of 120 to 125, which is not very impressive. 2. USA’s recent form – coming off a win against Canada, defeated Bangladesh in Bangladesh  The co-hosts, USA, have been making a big impact in the tournament. They kicked off by beating Canada in the opener, with Aaron Jones scoring a powerful unbeaten 94 to secure a seven-wicket win in Texas. The USA’s fantastic form began when Bangladesh toured them, where the USA won 2-0  in front of their home crowd in Texas. They played positively, showing their intent and demonstrating how small the margins can be in T20 cricket. 3. The local supportWith the eye-catching performances they have produced in recent times, the USA Cricket team is having strong local backing in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The local crowd support is giving the players extra motivation and confidence, helping them perform well on the field. With the USA Cricket team having found a winning formula by playing bold and aggressive cricket, the upcoming contest looks daunting for Pakistan, considering their recent performance. Pakistan’s lack of intent and non-aggressive approach contrasts sharply with the USA’s confident and dynamic style. Despite being an associate nation, the USA appears to have the upper hand as they face Pakistan in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixture.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

Rahul Dravid’s Report Card as Team India’s Head Coach

As Rahul Dravid is set to conquer his final frontier as Team India head coach, here is a report card on how he fared in his tenure.

Rahul Dravid has confirmed that the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be his last assignment as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Dravid, who took over as head coach in November 2021, has stated that he will not apply for the position again, for which the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recently advertised. Speaking ahead of India’s first game in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 against Ireland in New York, Dravid said,  “It is going to be the last one that I am in-charge of. Yeah, just considering, unfortunately, the kind of schedules and where I find myself at this stage in my life, I don’t think I’ll be able to re-apply. So yeah, obviously it’ll be my last one. But having said that, it’s (the significance of the tournament is) no different for me.”  As Dravid looks forward to conquering his final frontier, let’s look back at his records as the head coach of the Indian Cricket Team. Dravid’s Coaching RecordSince taking charge in 2021, Rahul Dravid has had a significant impact on the Indian Cricket Team. His tenure includes 14 out of 17 bilateral series wins and strong performances in major ICC tournaments. Here is a summary of his record: Test Match Cricket (Since November 2021)No one can forget India’s performance against England at Lord’s in 2022, where India secured a dramatic win by 151 runs. Dravid’s emphasis on discipline and nurturing young talent has strengthened India’s Test match performances. India won a crucial Test series against Australia in early 2023, clinching a memorable victory on the home shores. The victory against the Australians led Rahul Dravid’s troops to the finals of the ICC World Test Championship 2023.WIN PERCENTAGE IN TESTS: 65% Bilateral ODI Series Records (Since November 2021)Under Dravid’s guidance, India has played 14 bilateral ODI series. India has won 10 of these series, showcasing a strong performance in the 50-over format. Some extraordinary series victories include wins against England, South Africa, and West Indies.WIN PERCENTAGE IN ODI’s: 73.47% Bilateral T20I Series Records (Since November 2021)India has played 15 bilateral T20I series with Dravid as head coach and the Indian Cricket Team has secured victory in 11 of these series. Series triumphs against New Zealand, Australia, and Sri Lanka can be called as the highlights of Dravid’s coaching stint. WIN PERCENTAGE IN T20I’s: 61% India’s Performance in ICC TournamentsSince taking over the coaching responsibilities in November 2021, Dravid has guided India through several high-stake competitions, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 and ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, the ICC Men’s World Test Championship 2023 and the megaevent, the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup in 2023. While India consistently reached the knockout stages, Dravid’s men faced tough challenges in converting these opportunities into tournament victories. ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 was held in the UAE. India was knocked out in the group stage of the tournament. Despite strong performances in the group stages, India was defeated by Pakistan by 10 wickets.  ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, the Indian Cricket Team had a mixed performance under Dravid. India reached the semi-finals but was hammered by England. India lost the 2nd semi-final by 10 wickets.  ICC Men’s World Test Championship 2023 India had a successful campaign in whites during the ICC World Test Championship 2023 cycle, reaching the finals. However, Dravid and Co. had to face defeat to Australia in the grand finale at The Oval, London. Australia went on beating India by a massive margin of 209 runs.  ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023India performed admirably in the ICC Men’s ODI Cricket World Cup 2023, making it to the finals. Dravid’s coaching was on point as he went on building a strong comradery in the Indian dressing room during the tournament.  Dravid was again challenged by India’s old foes, Australia in the finals and again it was Australia who outclassed India in front of their home crowd. India faced a 6 wicket defeat. Dravid’s Coaching PerformanceWith a 72.41% win record in the ICC tournaments, Rahul Dravid’s coaching tenure has been marked by a couple of exceptional achievements and challenges. In bilateral series, India has been dominant, especially in the shorter formats, securing victories against top-tier teams. Dravid’s emphasis on nurturing young talent and fostering a strong team culture has been evident throughout his tenure. In ICC tournaments, India consistently reached the knockout stages under Dravid’s mentorship. However, the men in blue struggled to convert these opportunities into tournament victories. Despite this, Dravid’s strategic brilliance and calm demeanor have earned him respect and admiration within the cricketing community. As Dravid steps down from the role of head coach post ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, his legacy as a coach will be remembered for the stability and growth he brought to the Indian team. His contributions have laid a strong foundation for future successes, and his departure will mark the end of a significant chapter in Indian cricket. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye

2024 T20 World Cup: 3 Key Players For Team India vs Ireland

As the Indian Cricket Team gears up to take on Ireland, here are the top three players Rohit Sharma would be backing to deliver for the team.

The Indian Cricket Team kickstarts their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign against Ireland in their opening fixture at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York at 8:00PM IST. After the pitch incident in Tuesday’s match between South Africa and Sri Lanka, unpredictability has become the main feature at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup matches, especially those in New York. For the Indian team, this means entering uncertain territory, making it more like a risky game of chance than a regular cricket match. South Africa can confirm this experience.  Given the pitch conditions at Nassau, it’s better to field first if you win the toss. Here are the key players Rohit Sharma would be banking on for India’s fixture against Ireland.  Virat Kohli  No one chases targets better than the Chase Master, Virat Kohli. He is one of those few guys in international cricket who has the ability to absorb the pressure like a sponge and deliver the goods for his team, especially during the crucial games.  Kohli has played many crucial innings while chasing in the previous editions of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016 Kohli played an outstanding knock against Australia in the quarter-final, scoring 82* off 51 balls to help India reach the semi-finals. Another memorable chase was against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he scored 82* off 53 balls to lead India to a thrilling victory. When chasing in T20 Internationals, Kohli has an impressive average of around 69 and a strike rate touching 136. Kohli would be a key asset for Rohit and the Indian Cricket Team not only for today’s game but also for the remainder of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.  Suryakumar Yadav With the ice in his veins, Suryakumar Yadav has the ability to turn the game in India’s favor just in the matter of a couple of deliveries.  In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Suryakumar was impressive, scoring crucial runs in tight situations. His quickfire 68 off 40 balls against South Africa at Perth helped India stay in the game despite a challenging target. Suryakumar Yadav’s average while chasing in T20 Internationals is around 42, with a strike rate of approximately 175. His ability to consistently score runs at a fast pace makes him a valuable asset for the Indian Cricket Team during run-chases.  India always lacked someone who could finish games for the team, especially during crucial situations. However the arrival of Suryakumar Yadav has given India the confidence and hope that the men in blue can come out victorious out of the toughest situations given.  Jasprit Bumrah There’s no one greater than the leader of the Indian bowling cartel than Jasprit Bumrah when we talk about key players delivering it on the big stage.  Bumrah has delivered many crucial performances for India in T20 World Cups.  He bowled a brilliant spell against Pakistan taking 2 wickets for just 23 runs, helping India to a crucial win in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2016. In the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, he again showed his class with a tight spell against New Zealand, conceding just 19 runs in his 4 overs and scalping 2 important wickets. In T20 Internationals, Bumrah averages 21.03, which is excellent for a fast bowler. His ability to bowl accurately and take wickets at regular intervals makes him a key player for India not just for the game against Ireland but also for the upcoming games in the tournament.  The only time India and Ireland met in a ICC Men’s T20 World Cup fixture was in 2009 at Trent Bridge, where India won by eight wickets. Rohit Sharma is the only player from that match who is still part of the Indian team. Ireland is known for playing fearless cricket, but the Indian Cricket Team is used to this style, especially after a competitive two-month-long IPL. The match might not see scores over 200 like in the IPL. A total of 170-180 could be enough to win, unless the pitch at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium behaves unexpectedly.
