IPL 2024, Qualifier 2: Have SRH & RR met in a knockout game before?

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals are all set to lock horns in the IPL 2024 Qualifier 2 in Chennai on Friday. The winner of the match will go on to face Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk on Sunday, May 26th. Rajasthan and Hyderabad would have that one last chance to keep their hopes of winning the IPL 2024 title alive. While Hyderabad suffered a defeat at the hands of Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1, Rajasthan on the other hand ousted Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 4 wickets in Ahmedabad. Have SRH & RR met in an IPL knockout match before? Both Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad have taken on each other only once in an IPL knockout match in history. The year was 2013, also the same season, when Hyderabad was re-introduced into the IPL. In the eliminator, played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, Rajasthan Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 4 wickets, in a nail-biting finish in the last over. Former Australian batter Brad Hodge was named as the player of the match. IPL 2024 would be the first time in over a decade that both these sides will be locking horns against on each other in a knockout match. H2H Record in IPL There is very little to choose from both sides regarding the overall Head-To-Head record. Both the teams have taken on each other 19 times in the IPL before the Qualifier 2 in Chennai. Hyderabad has won 10 matches, while Rajasthan has 9 victories in their pocket. SRH vs RR – The last meeting Both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals met once in IPL 2024. The match was a humdinger, with Hyderabad winning the match by just one run, on their home turf. SRH veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the hero for the local team with three wickets. There is very little to choose between these two top teams in the IPL, going into Qualifier 2. Only one team’s dream of winning the IPL title will stay alive, while for the loser, this will again be a case of so near, yet so far. Who will be the one smiling on Friday?
Virat Kohli’s Report Card in IPL knockout matches: Numbers You Don’t Want To See

With 741 runs from 15 matches, RCB opener Virat Kohli holds the Orange Cap for the IPL 2024 season. However, even that wasn’t enough to save RCB from getting eliminated. On Wednesday, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Rajasthan won the Royal battle and defeated Bengaluru by 4 wickets. Kohli contributed a handy 33 runs, helping his side to reach a competitive total of 172 runs, but Rajasthan proved to be a better side on the night. This season, in particular, Kohli wasn’t just about scoring runs but he was taking down the opposition bowlers disdainfully. His aggressive batting style has caught the eyes of the cricket pundits and fans. RCB needed a big inning from the big man in the Eliminator. Unfortunately, that wasn’t to be. Kohli’s batting has been flawless this season, but the one area though, where his performance has taken a beating in the IPL is the knockouts. He has been playing the IPL from the start in 2008 for RCB. However, for the past eight seasons, his bat has remained silent in the knockouts. Also Read: How does the BCCI make money from the IPL? RCB lost the match by 7 wickets, and Kohli had a poor game with the bat. This time also, Kohli did marginally better with the bat, but RCB failed to stay alive in the tournament. Virat Kohli’s failure with the bat at the top of the order has been one of the major reasons behind RCB not winning the IPL title, for 17 seasons now. RCB is often called the chokers of the IPL, and against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad, the Red Army lived up to its reputation.

IPL 2024 Playoffs: KKR vs SRH – Who Wins Qualifier 1, If Rain Plays Spoilsport In Ahmedabad? Is There A Reserve Day?

The seventeenth season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has reached the climax stage as four teams – Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru – confirmed their spots for the playoffs. Rain has affected two out of the last three matches in the league stage, Kolkata Knight Riders have not played a competitive game since May 11th. Their last two games against Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals were called off, without a ball being bowled. Now, with the playoffs set in Ahmedabad, and monsoon hovering across various parts of the country, fans are worried, what happens if Qualifier 1 is washed out due to rain. WEATHER CONDITIONS The forecast says the weather will be clear and sunny through the week in Ahmedabad. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) also mentioned that a heatwave is expected in parts of Gujarat, including Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, over the next five days. In previous years, only the final had a reserve day. However, for IPL 2024, all four playoff matches have a reserve day. If a match is interrupted, it will continue or be played on the reserve day. WHAT IF THE RESERVE DAY IS ALSO WASHED OUT? According to IPL playoff rules, a match result can only be decided if both teams play at least 5 overs each. If one team has already played more than the required overs, the DLS method will be used to determine the result. The game shall be called off if there is no sign of play post the deadline. IS THERE ANY EXTRA TIME AVAILABLE TO COMPLETE PLAYOFFS MATCH ON THE SCHEDULED DAY?Yes, according to IPL playing conditions, there is an extra 120 minutes available for each playoff match. This means a playoff match could start as late as 9:40 PM on the original day without reducing the number of overs. The 10-minute interval and time-outs will still be included. WHAT HAPPENS IN CASE OF A COMPLETE WASH OUT?If Qualifier 1 is washed out, the first-placed team moves directly to the final. The second-placed team will go to Qualifier 2, where they will play against the winner of the Eliminator match. As the IPL 2024 reaches its final stage, the competition among the remaining four teams promises to be intense and captivating. The IPL 2024 Playoffs will include four matches: KKR finished at the top of the table with 20 points, followed by SRH and RR with 17 points each, and RCB with 14 points. The Qualifier 1 will feature Shreyas Iyer’s KKR taking on the formidable looking Pat Cummins’ SRH. KKR has been having a dream run so far in the IPL 2024, however SRH with their fiery top order batters and astute leadership of Patrick Cummins has been a spoilsport for all the other teams in the tournament so far. Apart from SRH, it’s the weather that also has been a massive spoilsport during the course of the tournament this season with a couple of games either abandoned or reduced to a certain extent due to rain delays. The IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad was delayed to the backup day because it rained so much that they couldn’t even start the match on the original day. Will this happen again this year? If yes then let’s check about the reserve day for Qualifier 1. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.
The Winning Formula That Makes CSK Fans’ Favorites

In the exhilarating realm of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the correlation between winning and fandom is undeniable, exemplified by franchises like the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Mumbai Indians (MI), each boasting five prestigious titles. These powerhouse teams not only dominate the leaderboard but also command immense viewership and sponsorship volumes, illustrating the profound impact of victory on fan engagement. However, amidst the towering giants, there exists a compelling anomaly – the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Despite their trophy cabinet remaining vacant, RCB enjoys an ardent and steadfast fanbase. This intriguing dynamic prompts a deeper exploration into the intricate relationship between success on the field and the fervor of fandom. Through comprehensive surveys conducted across 13 Indian cities, including primary hubs for all IPL franchises, intriguing patterns emerge. Notably, 50% of respondents express allegiance to a favorite team, with a significant portion aligning with CSK, MI, RCB, and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). While MI’s following has faced fluctuations following a title drought, CSK’s popularity remains steadfast, a testament to their enduring legacy. What makes CSK such a popular and loving franchise? 1. The Thala EffectAt the heart of CSK’s unwavering fandom lies the enigmatic figure of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, fondly revered as ‘Thala’ by CSK devotees. Dhoni’s magnetic allure transcends mere cricketing prowess; it embodies a cultural phenomenon. Despite an inconsistent performance in IPL 2024, CSK fans steadfastly rally behind their beloved captain, epitomizing the unparalleled influence of a sporting icon. It’s more than just a game when he steps onto the field wearing the CSK jersey. Dhoni’s association with CSK isn’t just about cricket, it’s about emotion, loyalty, and the belief that together, they can conquer any challenge.“ 2. Thala First CSK Then FansFor many fans, M.S. Dhoni is the main reason they love and support the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). These fans admire Dhoni for his calmness under pressure, smart decisions, and amazing cricket skills. Their love for CSK comes from their deep respect and affection for Dhoni. Whether Dhoni is batting, keeping wickets, or leading the team, these fans cheer loudly and passionately. To them, supporting CSK means supporting Dhoni, and they follow the team mainly because of their admiration for him. This special connection makes their support for CSK incredibly strong and heartfelt. CSK’s resilience in the face of adversity further solidifies their bond with fans. As CSK embarks on yet another quest for IPL glory, their legion of fans stands steadfast, unwavering in their support. While victory on the field undoubtedly fuels fandom, it is the enduring legacy of icons like Dhoni and the indomitable spirit of franchises like CSK that truly capture the hearts and imaginations of cricket enthusiasts worldwide. The question still lies, will the fans still support CSK even if M.S. Dhoni hangs up his boots? The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.
Umpires & iHawk cameras – England’s Tech Aide to Regain Ashes Down Under

In the world of cricket, change is often as slow as the pace of a test match on a lazy afternoon. Yet, behind the scenes, a revolution is underway. England under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum are doing everything in their power to win the Ashes Down Under in 2025. Even if that means, taking the help of technology to beat their oldest rivals. The term iHawk is doing the rounds in England domestic circuit these days. What is iHawk? The England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) performance team is orchestrating a groundbreaking project, crafting a “What It Takes To Win” model tailored specifically for the 2025-26 tour to Australia. This model draws from the wealth of knowledge possessed by current and former coaches and players, as well as data accumulated from past tours down under. Once refined, it will guide decisions regarding talent identification and aid selectors in assembling a squad capable of securing England’s first Ashes victory in Australia since 2010-11. The ultimate goal is to breathe life into data and harness its power to achieve success on the field. Facilitating this endeavor is the ECB’s innovative iHawk technology, simplifying and enhancing the collection of crucial cricketing data. How does iHawk work?By utilizing cameras worn by umpires, iHawk meticulously tracks every delivery, providing insights into factors such as seam movement, release height, pace, and swing. This data is then transformed into an overlay, complete with pertinent information displayed on-screen. Has iHawk been used before?A soft launch of iHawk in 2023 saw extensive data collection from over 200 matches and more than 50,000 deliveries bowled by 250 bowlers. This season marks the first time every domestic men’s and women’s match will be covered, significantly expanding the dataset. Alongside contracted players, emerging talents like Matthew Potts, Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Josh Tongue are under scrutiny, with plans to delve into the nuanced differences between the Dukes and Kookaburra balls. As England’s Test summer approaches, this wealth of data will inform the selection committee, comprising captain Ben Stokes, head coach Brendon McCullum, managing director Rob Key, and national selector Luke Wright. The selection process may adopt a forward-thinking approach, with an eye on future series, including the Ashes, to ensure the inclusion of players adept in diverse conditions. Any major reactionsStafford Murray, ECB’s performance lead, elucidates the “performance backwards” approach, emphasizing the importance of setting long-term goals and working backward to achieve them. This methodology proved successful in the selection of Shoaib Bashir for the India tour, highlighting the synergy between data analysis and on-field performance. iHawk, described as HawkEye “lite,” has evolved significantly, transitioning from cumbersome equipment to a streamlined harness equipped with a GoPro and a mobile phone. While not real-time, iHawk’s data is rapidly processed and shared among analysts, aiding decision-making processes. What’s in it for the bowlers? For bowlers, iHawk provides insights into delivery speeds and variations, while batters benefit from analyses of their shot selection and impact on match outcomes. The introduction of an “impact metric” underscores the ECB’s commitment to evaluating players beyond traditional statistics, focusing on their contributions to match dynamics. Umpires also benefit from iHawk, utilizing its insights to refine decision-making and familiarize themselves with players’ tendencies. While not intended as a substitute for DRS, iHawk serves as a valuable developmental tool, enhancing umpiring standards and adapting to evolving gameplay trends. Looking ahead, iHawk holds immense potential to revolutionize cricketing analytics and decision-making processes, paving the way for a more data-driven and informed approach to the sport. As England prepares to battle for the Ashes, the fusion of technology and tradition heralds a new era in cricketing excellence.
