In a heartwarming act of generosity, India and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Shivam Dube has pledged financial support to 10 promising young athletes from Tamil Nadu, offering Rs 70,000 each to help further their sporting journeys.
The Chennai Super Kings star made the announcement during the Tamil Nadu Sports Journalists’ Association (TNSJA) awards and scholarship function, held in Chennai. His contribution came in addition to the Rs 30,000 scholarships provided by TNSJA to each athlete.
Speaking at the event, Dube expressed his admiration for the initiative. “On the way to this venue, Dr. Baba (TNCA Secretary) told me about the purpose of this event — supporting young athletes. It’s truly inspiring,” said Dube, who was also the chief guest at the ceremony. The event was graced by several dignitaries, including CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan.

Dube, a member of India’s victorious T20 World Cup 2024 squad, emphasized the importance of such recognition and financial support in shaping the careers of young talents. “Awards like these, even if they seem small, can be a great source of motivation. I’ve seen similar initiatives in Mumbai, and I hope more states take up such efforts.”
He added, “When you’re young, every bit of encouragement — whether it’s financial aid or recognition — counts. It fuels your passion and pushes you to aim higher.”
The ten athletes who received the scholarships represent a variety of disciplines:
PB Abhinandh (Table Tennis)
KS Vhenisa Sree (Archery)
Muthumeena Vellasami (Para Athletics)
Shameena Riaz (Squash)
Jayant RK and S Nandhana (Cricket)
Kamali P (Surfing)
R Abinaya and RC Jithin Arjunan (Athletics)
A Takkshanth (Chess)
Dube’s gesture has been widely lauded as a morale booster for the state’s sporting future, with hopes that it inspires more such initiatives across India.
