Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh recently received a strong backing to lead the Australian Men’s t20 setup.
In a recent interview, Australian Men’s Cricket team coach & one of the three selectors as well, Andrew McDonald endorsed Mitchell Marsh as the most suitable candidate for leading the Australian Men’s t20 team at the ICC Men’s t20 World Cup 2024 which is to be held in the Caribbean and the USA in June.
“I think all roads will lead to Mitch, so just got to get that ticked off in certain areas,” said McDonald. He later also added “We think he’s (Marsh) the leader for the World Cup, and I think that will just be a matter of due course.”
Mitch Marsh, who now is an integral part of the Australian cricketing set up has led Australia to victories in the T20I series against South Africa and the West Indies. Recently, Mitchell Marsh led Australia to a clean sweep against New Zealand in a T20I series.
The captaincy news has marked a significant moment for the 32 year old, hard hitting Aussie all-rounder whose international resurgence began during Australia’s charge to victory at the ICC t20 World Cup 2021, where he was the player of the match in the final.
There is no doubt that Mitchell Marsh would be carrying enough weight on his shoulders, given that he is an all-rounder and now a potential International t20 cricket Captain as well. Marsh would be handy with both the bat and the ball. In 54 T20Is, Marsh has aggregated 1432 runs with nine half-centuries besides 17 wickets at a 22.76 average.
Australia won’t be having any t20 assignments before the ICC Men’s t20 World Cup but their marquee players in the form of Mitch Marsh, David Warner, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc & Glenn Maxwell are set to gain t20 experience by displaying and polishing their t20 skills at the IPL, which is just round the corner.
The ICC Men’s t20 World Cup is all set to begin on the 1st of June, 2024 with Australia being a part of group B in the tournament with the likes of England, Oman, Scotland and Namibia as their opponents.
