IPF and WPF Unify To Form Global Governing Body For Pickleball

In a landmark development for the sport of pickleball, member nations of the International Pickleball Federation (IPF) and the World Pickleball Federation (WPF) voted unanimously on June 14, 2025, to merge into a single, unified international governing body. The vote took place during Special General Meetings (SGMs) held by both federations.

The newly unified organization will continue under the name World Pickleball Federation (WPF) and will uphold the core principle of “One Country, One Vote”, ensuring fair and equal representation for all member nations.

Initially registered as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) entity in Illinois, USA, the new WPF will also be officially registered in Lausanne, Switzerland—the home of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). This strategic move signals the federation’s firm commitment to meeting all IOC recognition criteria and aligning with the highest standards of global sports governance.

The unified WPF will comply with the following IOC requirements:

Democratic governance and equal voting rights

Transparent operations and financial oversight

Gender equity and athlete representation

Adherence to World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) standards

Robust conflict resolution and disciplinary frameworks

With a combined legacy, over six years of operational experience, and a membership of 100 countries, the unified WPF is now well-positioned to begin the formal IOC recognition process. Unlike other organizations claiming international authority over pickleball, the new WPF stands apart through its commitment to democracy, transparency, and international legitimacy.

“This unification is a landmark achievement for pickleball worldwide. By combining our strengths and committing to the highest international standards, we are sending a clear message: pickleball is ready to take its place among the world’s most respected sports.” said Arvind Prabhoo. Arvind is the president of IPF.

“The pickleball community wants and needs one international governing body. With 100 member countries and six years in business, the new WPF has already met the first two critical requirements for IOC membership. We look forward to growing the sport at the grassroots level globally while working towards our Olympic dream.” added Seymour Rifkind. Seymour is the president of WPF.

As part of its founding process, the WPF is now accepting nominations for Directors to form its inaugural Board. These Directors will be democratically elected by member nations at the first Annual General Meeting (AGM) in August 2025, ensuring that the sport’s governance reflects its global diversity and inclusivity.

This historic unification represents a transformative milestone for pickleball, laying the foundation for accelerated international growth, enhanced legitimacy, and eventual Olympic recognition.
