Hockey India congratulates Harbinder Singh on winning the prestigious Padma Shri

Harbinder Singh’s indelible mark on Indian hockey was etched in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, where he played a pivotal role in securing a Gold Medal for the nation. In a historic final against arch-rivals Pakistan, the Indian team emerged triumphant, with Singh showcasing his prowess by scoring five crucial goals in his debut Olympic appearance.

The veteran athlete’s illustrious career spanned from 1961 to 1972, during which he participated in three Olympic Games, clinching medals in each edition. Alongside the Gold in 1964, Singh contributed to India’s Bronze victories in the 1968 Mexico Olympics and the 1972 Munich Olympics. His legacy extends beyond the Olympic arena, as he played a vital role in India’s dominance in Asia, securing Gold in the 1966 Asian Games and Silver in 1970.
