IPL 2024 : Rashid Khan and Gujarat Titans gatecrash the Rajasthan Royals’ party.

Just when we thought that the game was in Rajasthan’s pockets, was exactly the moment when the Gujarat Titans pulled off a stunner.  In a thrilling encounter at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Rajasthan Royals clinched a nail-biting victory by 3 wickets against Gujarat Titans in the 24th match of the Indian Premier League 2024. The match showcased an intense battle between both teams, highlighting their depth and resilience. Batting first, Rajasthan Royals posted a formidable total of 196-3 in 20 overs. Captain Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 68 and Riyan Parag’s explosive 76 powered the Royals’ innings, overcoming early dismissals. Despite Rashid Khan’s standout performance for Gujarat Titans, other bowlers struggled to contain Rajasthan’s aggressive batting. In response, Gujarat Titans displayed their batting prowess, reaching the target with 199-7 in 20 overs. Shubman Gill’s 72 off 44 balls set the tone for the chase, with Rashid Khan’s unbeaten 24 towards the end sealing the victory. Rajasthan Royals’ bowlers, led by Kuldeep Sen and Yuzvendra Chahal, kept the match competitive, but Gujarat’s strategic run-chasing secured them a close win. The Sportz Planet,Atharva Shetye.

‘Credit to Ashutosh Sharma for taking the match to the last ball,’ says Punjab Kings’ batsman Shashank Singh

April 10th, 2024: Chasing a target of 183 against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League encounter at the new PCA Stadium, Mullanpur on Tuesday, Punjab Kings got off to a slow start with the bat, and found themselves needing 67 in four overs. In the middle were the two rising stars Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, who had already showcased their tenacity and power-hitting in the previous game, leading their side to a dramatic win over the Gujarat Titans last week. As the home crowd cheered for their Kings on every ball, the hope remained the two youngsters could do it once again for their side. With 29 runs left to chase in the final over, Ashutosh slammed a couple of sixes to put pressure on the opposition. But a good delivery from speedster Jaydev Unadkat ended Kings’ hope and despite Shashank’s last-ball six, Sunrisers won the game by 2 runs. Earlier the Punjab Kings bowling attack did well to shackle the explosive top order of the opposition after skipper Shikhar Dhawan elected to field. Arshdeep was the star, picking up four wickets and giving away just 29 runs in his four overs, while Harshal Patel and Kagiso Rabada also maintained a low economy rate. But Nitish Reddy’s 37-ball 64 helped Sunrisers post a challenging total on a tricky batting surface. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shashank praised Ashutosh for his power-hitting and credited him for keeping the side in the hunt till the last minute. “We always play to win. So, we are upset whether we lose by 2 runs or 20 runs. A loss is a loss. But the way we took the game to the final ball, we have to credit Ashutosh for his innings. The way he came down and batted was brilliant. Till the last ball, we had faith and we were discussing in the middle that the chase was possible. We kept telling each other that we would be able to do it. But Unadkat managed to get that one ball that he needed to bowl to restrict us.” The two batters scripted a partnership of 66* off 27 balls on the night, once again showcasing their on-field camaraderie. While Ashutosh remained unbeaten on 33 off 15 balls, Shashank finished on 46 not out in 25 balls. On being asked about the secret behind their tremendous partnerships, Shashank revealed how the belief shown by the team management and coaching staff has helped them gain confidence. “We did a lot of match simulations in the pre-season Punjab Kings camp. We bat in the middle overs, so we were given a lot of scenarios. We had to chase 60-70 runs in 5 overs and we were able to do so a few times. So, we have faith and we both trust each other. Even if we need 60 runs in the final 4 overs, we feel confident we can get one big over and get the win. The credit has to be given to the coaching staff, support staff, and the management who have given us self-confidence and belief.” The 32-year-old further opened up on the learnings from the match and said he would discuss with coaches how he can continue to improve further. “Individually, I was able to middle the ball a lot in the game which has given me a lot of confidence. But if we are unable to get the win, then there is always scope for improvement. So, we have to discuss the same with coaches now on how we can ensure we get those crucial 2-3 runs, or which bowlers in which situations I can target to do even better. That is the learning for us,” Shashank said. After winning the toss and electing to field the Punjab Kings bowling attack did well to shackle the explosive top order of the opposition. Speaking on his role for the team, Shashank said that he has to finish off the games for Punjab Kings and get the win. “In the middle overs, our task is to take the game deep to the last over and win the game for our side. It is not possible every time. But if we can spend time on the crease, and adjust well to conditions, then it improves our chances. The more I could finish off games, the more beneficial it will be for the team,” he signed off. Meanwhile, INR 50 lakhs were raised during the match in Mullanpur on Tuesday to the noble cause of girl child education. The M3M Foundation, in partnership with Shikhar Dhawan Foundation, has committed support to females for vocational education, and Rs 5 Lakhs will be donated for every 25 runs scored and 3 wickets taken by Punjab Kings during their home games. Through the initiative, the organisation aims to provide vocational education support to 111 girls for up to Rs. 5 Lakhs, covering a total amount of Rs. 5.55 crore over the next five years. Punjab Kings will take on Rajasthan Royals on Saturday, April 13th at 19:30 hrs IST.

IPL 2024 : Captain Cummins leads from the front as SRH escapes narrowly.

In an electrifying clash at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, Sunrisers Hyderabad clinched a thrilling victory against Punjab Kings by a slender margin of 2 runs. This captivating showdown, a highlight of the Indian Premier League 2024, unfolded under the floodlights on April 9th, enthralling the spectators with its high-energy action. Batting first, Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a competitive total of 182-9 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings witnessed a mix of ups and downs, with several batsmen making crucial contributions amidst tense moments. Opening batsman Head provided an energetic start with a quickfire 21 off 15 balls, setting the tone early on. Noteworthy was Abdul Samad’s explosive late cameo, smashing 25 runs off just 12 deliveries at a striking rate exceeding 200, which significantly boosted the team’s total. Nitish Reddy’s resilient knock of 64 from 37 deliveries stood out among the Sunrisers’ batting performances, displaying adept stroke play and smart rotation of the strike. However, the bowlers encountered a mixed bag of results. Arshdeep Singh shone brightly, claiming 4 wickets for 29 runs in his spell of 4 overs, emerging as a formidable challenge for the Sunrisers. Contributions from Harshal Patel and Sam Curran also played a crucial role in restricting the opposition’s scoring opportunities at crucial junctures. In pursuit of 183 runs for victory, Punjab Kings came tantalizingly close, finishing at 180-6. While their innings had its moments of promise during the middle overs, early wickets added pressure on the middle order. Shashank Singh’s unbeaten 46 off 25 deliveries and Ashutosh Sharma’s brisk 33 off 15 balls kept the team’s hopes alive until the very end, but ultimately fell short by a mere 2 runs. Sikandar Raza and Sam Curran also made noteworthy contributions, yet the escalating run rate in the latter part of the innings proved insurmountable. Sunrisers Hyderabad’s bowlers executed their strategies effectively, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and T Natarajan particularly standing out for their economical bowling while also claiming crucial wickets. The match unfolded as a nail-biting contest, with the final outcome hanging in the balance until the last over. Next up, the Sunrisers Hyderabad are set to face the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 15, 2024, at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Meanwhile, the Punjab Kings are in need of regrouping and seeking solutions as they return home to take on the Rajasthan Royals on the 13th of April 2024.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

IPL 2024 : Rajasthan Royals; the only unbeaten team at IPL 2024.

With the IPL 2024 nearing its midpoint, the Rajasthan Royals stand out as the sole unbeaten team in the tournament. Their dominant performances have showcased their prowess, with each match strengthening their reputation as formidable contenders. Next up, they face off against the Gujarat Titans on Wednesday, March 10th, 2024 and the men in pink would like to continue their winning streak. The Royals’ batting lineup boasts some of the finest white-ball hitters, including Jos Buttler, rising star Riyan Parag, skipper Sanju Samson, and the reliable finisher Shamron Hetmyer. This combination renders them as arguably the most well-rounded batting unit in the league. In the bowling department, the Royals exhibit a diverse arsenal. Trent Boult brings his experience and precision, complemented by the pace of Nandre Burger and the spin wizardry of Yuzvendra Chahal. The team also benefits from the versatility of all-rounders like Ravi Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel, who provide crucial contributions with both bat and ball. Throughout the tournament, the bowling attack has delivered consistent performances. Boult’s knack for taking wickets has been evident in every game, while the spin duo of Ashwin and Chahal has maintained reliability. Ashwin’s steady presence has allowed Chahal to thrive, while Avesh Khan has made impactful contributions in key matches. However, the team faces a minor setback with an injury concern surrounding Sandeep Sharma. His availability for the upcoming fixture remains uncertain, adding an element of intrigue to their lineup dynamics. The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

IPL 2024 : Jadeja shines as CSK snaps KKR’s winning streak.

In a riveting encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) took on the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Amidst a charged atmosphere, CSK’s seasoned all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, emerged as the hero of the day, orchestrating a spectacular return to form that significantly bolstered his team’s campaign. Jadeja’s performance was nothing short of exceptional as he delivered a mesmerizing bowling spell, claiming three crucial wickets while conceding a mere 18 runs. His ability to strike at crucial junctures of the game not only stifled KKR’s batting lineup but also provided CSK with the impetus they needed to secure a vital win, breaking their two-match losing streak in the tournament. However, Jadeja was not alone in his heroics. The supporting cast of CSK’s bowling attack, comprising pacers Tushar Deshpande and Mustafizur Rahman, stepped up admirably in the absence of their teammate, Matheesha Pathirana. Deshpande’s figures of 3/33 and Rahman’s contribution of 2/22 added to the woes of the KKR batsmen, further consolidating CSK’s dominance in the match. On the other hand, KKR endured a forgettable outing with the bat, failing to capitalize on their promising start in the powerplay. Despite reaching 56/1 within the first six overs, they struggled to maintain momentum, eventually succumbing to the relentless pressure exerted by CSK’s disciplined bowling unit. Their innings, which began with promise, concluded disappointingly as they managed to muster a modest total of just 137 runs. In pursuit of the target, CSK displayed composure and determination, navigating through the challenge posed by the dew factor with relative ease. Led by their captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who showcased exemplary batting prowess, CSK efficiently chased down the required runs, clinching victory with seven wickets and 14 balls to spare. Gaikwad’s unbeaten knock of 67 runs off 58 deliveries played a pivotal role in steering his team towards a convincing win. Despite the absence of extravagant big-hitting fireworks, the match offered moments of excitement, courtesy of Shivam Dube’s cameo. Dube’s aggressive strokeplay, highlighted by two towering sixes off the bowling of Varun Chakravarthy, injected a dose of adrenaline into the proceedings, much to the delight of the spectators. While KKR’s batting powerplay showed promise initially, their inability to capitalize on the momentum and counter CSK’s strategic bowling changes proved to be their undoing. Despite valiant efforts from captain Shreyas Iyer, who notched up a respectable 34 runs, KKR faltered under the relentless pressure exerted by CSK’s bowling arsenal, ultimately succumbing to a defeat. With this emphatic victory, CSK extended their stronghold at home, maintaining an impressive winning streak at the Chepauk stadium. As they continue their quest for IPL glory, Jadeja’s resurgent form and the team’s collective effort stand as testament to their resilience and championship pedigree. Thakur’s five-for as the Lucknow Super Giants best the Gujarat Titans by 33 runs.

Lucknow Super Giants managed to compile a competitive total of 163/5, demonstrating resilience and strategic prowess, before taking full advantage of the prevailing conditions to stifle the efforts of Lucknow Gujarat Titans during their pursuit. The spin duo of Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi showcased their mastery by keeping the opposition batsmen in check, while pacer Yash Thakur emerged as the hero with a remarkable five-wicket haul. Despite the unfortunate early exit of tearaway quick Mayank Yadav due to injury after delivering just one over, his absence didn’t impede LSG’s defensive prowess, as Gujarat Titans found themselves struggling to match the run rate set by their counterparts. In the initial stages of the match, LSG’s skipper KL Rahul’s decision to bat first appeared to falter as Umesh Yadav struck early, dismissing opener Quinton de Kock. Umesh continued to assert his dominance during the powerplay, restricting LSG to a mere 47 runs. Although Rahul showcased commendable resilience, contributing 33 runs off 31 balls, and Marcus Stoinis provided a significant boost with his 58 off 43 balls, the innings lacked the anticipated momentum. Even Nicholas Pooran, known for his explosive batting, found it challenging to accelerate, managing 32 runs off 22 balls. Ayush Badoni’s brisk 20 off 11 balls injected some vitality into the innings, but the overall performance fell short of achieving the desired onslaught. On the flip side, LSG’s bowling unit displayed remarkable cohesion and discipline, exploiting the pitch conditions to their advantage. Krunal Pandya and Ravi Bishnoi executed their spin wizardry with precision, applying relentless pressure on the GT batsmen and restricting their scoring opportunities. Meanwhile, Yash Thakur’s exceptional five-wicket haul showcased his ability to deliver under pressure, ensuring that GT’s batting lineup never gained the upper hand. Despite the setback of losing Mayank Yadav to injury, LSG’s collective effort in both batting and bowling departments proved to be the deciding factor in securing a convincing victory over their opponents. Their ability to adapt to the challenges posed by the match conditions and execute their game plan effectively underscores their potential as formidable contenders in the tournament. IPL 2024: Mumbai Indians open their IPL 2024 account with a notable victory over Delhi Capitals; their 150th win in T20 cricket.

Five-time IPL champions, the Mumbai Indians (MI), etched their name in history at the Wankhede Stadium as they clinched their 150th victory in T20 cricket, establishing themselves as the most successful team in terms of wins. This remarkable feat unfolded during their clash against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) fixture in Mumbai. In a thrilling encounter, MI successfully defended a target of 235 runs, propelled by stellar performances from their openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, as well as contributions from Tim David and Romario Shepherd down the order. Despite their efforts, DC could only manage 205/8 in their allotted 20 overs. It’s worth noting that MI’s tally of 150 wins excludes victories achieved in Super Overs following tied matches. Across IPL and the now-defunct Champions League T20, MI has participated in 273 matches, securing 150 wins while enduring 117 losses. Two matches concluded with no result, while MI has won and lost two matches each in Super Overs. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) closely follows with 148 victories in their cricketing history. Overall, CSK has contested 253 T20 matches, winning 148, losing 101, with two matches resulting in no outcome, and they’ve experienced Super Over outcomes on two occasions after tied regular games. This triumph also marked MI’s 50th win at the Wankhede Stadium, making them the IPL franchise with the most victories at a single venue. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and CSK occupy the subsequent positions with 48 and 47 wins respectively at their respective home grounds. Remarkably, Mumbai Indians have emerged victorious in all 14 matches where they defended totals of 200 runs or more. Regarding the match itself, DC won the toss and opted to bowl first. A dynamic 80-run partnership between Rohit Sharma (49 off 27) and Ishan Kishan (42 off 23) laid a solid foundation for MI. Despite a brief slowdown, skipper Hardik Pandya’s 39 off 33 deliveries ensured a formidable total, while Tim David (45* off 21) and Romario Shepherd (39* off 10) provided crucial late bursts, guiding MI to 234/5 in their quota of overs. Axar Patel (2/35) and Anrich Nortje (2/65) stood out among DC’s bowlers. In response, DC’s innings saw notable contributions from Prithvi Shaw (66 off 40) and Abhishek Porel (41 off 31), who forged an 88-run partnership for the second wicket after the early dismissal of David Warner. However, despite Tristan Stubbs’s explosive 71* off just 25 balls, DC fell short, finishing at 205/8, succumbing to a 29-run defeat. Gerald Coetzee (4/34) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/22) spearheaded MI’s bowling attack. Romario Shepherd’s all-round performance earned him the ‘Player of the Match’ award. On the points table, MI currently occupies the eighth position with one win and three losses, accruing two points. On the other hand, DC finds themselves at the bottom with one win in five matches, also holding two points. The Mumbai Indians next take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Thursday, 11th of April, 2024 at the Wankhede on the other hand the Delhi Capitals fly to Lucknow and take on the Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, 12th of April 2024.  The Sportz Planet Desk,Atharva Shetye.

Jayesh Rane Opens Up About Playing for his Home Club and Preparing for the Final Weeks of ISL

Mumbai, 7th April, 2024: Mumbai City FC have been one of the most impressive teams this season in the ISL and are coming into the final rounds of the league stage on the back of an 8-game unbeaten streak. The Islanders, who are the holders of the ISL League Winners Shield from the last season, take on Odisha FC (8 April) at home and then Mohun Bagan SG (15 April) in what is set to be a classic encounter on the last day of the league stage. However, the team is focussed and are taking it one day at a time. Midfielder Jayesh Rane said, “We are definitely focussed towards winning the ISL League Winners Shield and the ISL title after that. And we are taking it one game at a time.” Rane has been one of the key members of the Mumbai City FC engine room and his form will be important for the Islanders in the final rounds. “I don’t do anything special or extra before any big game, because I consider all the games equally important, and I like to keep things simple and train well. I like to ensure that I eat well and get enough rest, and talk to my wife, who is my support system.” A true blue Mumbai boy, the 31-year-old is understandably delighted to be able to turn out for his home club. “I think it is a great opportunity to play for my home club and what makes it more special is the presence of the players in our squad. The likes of Alberto Noguera, Lallianzuala Chhangte, Jorge Pereyra Diaz and of course the whole squad always bring their A game to the table and it has been showing in the results,” he added. For Rane, though, one of the most impressive players has been the young forward Vikram Partap Singh, who has really lit up the evenings at the Mumbai Football Arena. And Rane, who is always on the lookout for him in the attacking third, said, “I think Vikram Partap Singh is really doing well for Mumbai City FC. He is a gift that keeps giving and his dedication and hard work can be seen by one and all. He trains well and is getting the rewards with his goals.”     The combination of Vikram and Rane have worked well for the Islanders, with the latter also making significant contributions to the cause. And now, the duo and the rest of the squad have their blinkers on, as they look to tick of all the checkboxes and go full throttle in their hunt for silverware. “The team is working very hard and we are doing everything we can to get the results. The thought of winning another trophy is a great source of motivation for us and we want to do it for the club and our fans,” he signed off.
