American actress Anne Hathaway has plunged herself into sports business as she has joined a female-led consortium that has acquired the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team. This landmark move brings a touch of Hollywood glamour to SailGP, the cutting-edge global sailing league.
According to a Reuters report, the newly formed ownership group includes influential figures from entertainment, luxury, and finance. Legendary sailor Jimmy Spithill has been appointed team CEO and co-owner, signaling a strong leadership vision for the team’s future. SailGP CEO Russell Coutts hailed the deal as “another significant milestone in SailGP’s growth as a league.”

SailGP, launched in 2018, is an international sailing championship featuring high-speed F50 foiling catamarans. National teams compete in short, action-packed races held in coastal cities around the globe. The ongoing SailGP season includes 12 national teams. The next race on the calendar is the Mubadala New York Sail Grand Prix, set to take place on June 7-8. With Hathaway’s star power and the strategic leadership of Spithill, the Red Bull Italy SailGP Team is poised to become a dynamic force both on and off the water.
