The French Open, one of the tennis’ four Grand Slams, has gotten lucrative as the tournament has increased its total prize purse to approximately $63.7 million—up. The new total prize money is 5.21% more from the total prize pot which was on offer last year. According to a Reuters report this year’s men’s and women’s singles champions will each take home $2.9 million, nearly $170,000 more than in 2024.
Further the report states that this is the fourth straight year that the organisers of the French Open have increased the total prize purse. In 2021 the total prize pot of the French Open was $38.9 million.

As things stand the French Open now ranks third among the four Grand Slams in terms of prize pool. In 2024, the US Open offered a total prize pool of $75 million, which was the largest purse in tennis history. Last year’s Wimbledon had a prize pot of $66.1 million. Earlier this year, Australian Open, year’s first Grand Slam had a total purse value of around $60 million.
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, World no.1 Jannik Sinner and 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic are the three men favourites to win the men’s singles title this time around. On the women’s side, top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka is aiming for her fourth career Grand Slam title. She’ll be looking to rebound after falling to Madison Keys of in the Australian Open final earlier this year. Also in the mix will be Iga Natalia who won the women’s singles title last year.
The 2025 edition of the French Open will commence from May 25 and run until June 8.
